Was trying to post a picture I found but could not. Do a image search on the web for salmon tattoo, some very interesting artwork.

Just my humble opinion but if you're going to head down the body mutilation path you'd better think up you're own design and make it a one of a kind, just for you. No off the shelf renderings. A lot of people do tats but, there are very few true artists, the job is to find the right artist and make it your own. Don't just get a tat for the sake of getting a tat.

I always thought something tribal would be cool, and probably be the cheaper route. You would have to pay alot of money to get a good looking realistic one.

Ditto what Bodo said.
My personal tat rules are:
Nothing off the wall of the shop (flash)
Nothing I've ever seen on anyone else
No words (something you say today may mean something totally different in 5, 10, 20 years)
Make an agreement with the artist to not sell, give away or do the same design on anyone else.

I've thought about some type of fishing related tat, but haven't been inspired by anything yet (and always have better things to spend the $$ on).

It would be a good thing to find a tattoo artist you like, and ask him to come up with a design.

I know the guys at slave to the needle do this, they designed a few tattoos for a friend and they look great and are definitely one of a kind.

Where exactly?
How big?

Triple agreement. I'm saving up for a tattoo of a giant squid. Maybe eating a big steelhead, maybe not. If you want a tattoo, save up, go to different shops, find someone that you want to work with based on their portfolio. Give them a deposit, have them work up a design for you and get it just right. It's not worth it to just get some random picture, or something half cocked. It's for life, and it's your personal artwork. Don't get anything above the neck, beyond your wrists or anywhere you can't cover up, or else getting a job can be tough. Not so much in Seattle, but I know a lot of employers still stereotype tats. I would not get anything in color. I don't think it ages well. Maybe two tone at most.

I like the hawaiin fish hook, thinking of getting a simple design of one. Don't think i've seen a tat of one before but wouldn't really care if someone else had one, would mean different things to us. Hope you find what you want!

@drysuperfly52 Yes, he is on the east coast. But if you were to contact him with any Idea he could draw up what you want for a fee and you can find an artist local to stab it on you!

may have thought of something pretty original. Get like a fishing mount Rushmore, so instead of presidents it would have steelhead, king, silver and humpie. It sounds cool to me just need to get it drawn out and see how it would actually look
