OK, so what about the new same sex marriage law?

Post by AJ's Dad » Sun Dec 09, 2012 8:52 am

Controversial legislation can become a very juicy subject when it's discussed in an open public forum. But hey, the weather is turning cold, and fewer people are out there fishing so why not discuss that type of thing on this website?

Big D's topic on the new marijuana law is getting interesting, so what the heck. Why not discuss Washingtons other new "Controversial Legislation".

Let's hear everyones thoughts on the new same sex marriage law. I'm not hating, I'm just curious.

I have formulated an opinion myself, but NOT A JUDGMENT. That's not up to me.
My opinion is simply this. To each his/her own. If that's your game, go for it. That doesn't mean I don't think it's wrong, or have to agree with it.
My opinion may change as I read the comments of others and become more educated on the subject.
I would suggest keeping comments on this subject respectfull, clean, non hatefull, and sometimes humorous.

Let the comments begin! :)

What is to get educated about [confused] You already stated each to his own and that should be enough lets get on with our own lives rather than interfering in others.

I have a good friend that has two Dads, at first i thought it was wierd. Now i have grown to accept the fact that same sex couples can love eachother, and no one should hold back the right for them to marry. I think people have just the right though to be wierded out by it, we have had it taught to us for a long time that only a man and woman shall lay together(its in the bible). But at the same time pot was known as a drug and now look at it. Times are changing and people will change with them, but some will be hard headed and not accept change. I mean im not down to have a sword fight or sport some assless chaps, but if you wanna marry your boyfriend and there is beer at the reception, send me a wedding invite! :salut:

Most of the American people came from other countries to escape religious and political persecution. Maybe you didn't make the move but one of your ancestors did. It's been a long time coming. Everyone has the right to be happy and love who they choose. It's about time our society is affording everyone the same benefits.

Its so dumb. Who cares who marries whom. I dont care if somebody wants to marry their dog. Go for it. I love hearing all the right wing nuts complain about it. It just dosent affect my life at all. So I dont care who marries. Its just so stupid wasting taxpayer money arguing it. The ultra religious folks need to chill on the religious aspects of it. You got to laugh at Wa State Govt. They can make money dissapear faster then a gambler.

I don't care if someone wants to marry another dude or girl but I also think 'ultra religious folks' have the right to be 'ultra religious.' Just like left wing nuts have the right to be left wing nuts, and so on and so forth. I wish people would stop being so narrow minded and stop calling people names and stereo typing.

Racfish you can love your dog all you want and anyone else has the right to love who they choose, but no one should have the right to redefine marriage. No president, no state, no nation, no Congress, no government, and no dictator has the legal right to change the definition of marriage.

If youre talking the Christian definition then it would mean nothing to me.Im not Christian. Where is this definition you're talking about. Id love to read it. Plus I dont own a dog. I ve done the marrige thing twice . It interferes with fishing.

Religion aside, It weakens traditional family values and confuses children about gender roles and expectations of society. Too many coasties worried about smoking their pot and getting gay married with one another, ignoring the real issues... maybe we should be more concerned about electing people in office that will correct our state budget and national debt

sjrose... you really should explain the origin of this "definition of marriage"? Traditions come and go and "real issues" are very subjective. I agree that it's not the business of government to define marriage.

The definition is defined by God as between one man and one women and again previously in our state was legally defined as just that, before the people west of the mountains redefined the "legal" definition of marriage "in Washington state"

This could be a long drawn out topic but for me its done. I believe my way and you believe in yours. Thats another part of the great word Freedom. Being free to think the way we do. Thats what makes us a great nation.

" No president, no state, no nation, no Congress, no government, and no dictator has the legal right to change the definition of marriage."
"previously in our state was legally defined as just that "

"Religion aside"
"The definition is defined by God"

You're contradicting yourself here. I respect your opinion, I would hope that you could respect the rights of others to live freely even when it makes you uncomfortable. Live & let live!

Actually, on a federal level, congress does have the legal right to redefine marriage. Not to mention that in our state, both congress and voters have the legal right to redefine marriage! Hence why after congress "redefined" marriage by popular vote (which was totally legal, btw), the decision was referred to voters, who approved the decision by a 7.4% margin (this was also legal).

Let's start with "the definition is defined by God." If you don't understand why this statement makes no sense, you are probably in over your head by even beginning to express an opinion on the matter. Furthermore, "between one man and one women" is an equally nonsensical statement, particularly the "one women" part. Actually, this whole sentence is full of grammar errors and I am not exactly sure what you are even trying to say. Everyone is allowed to have an opinion, but don't expect anyone to take it seriously unless you can express it in a manner that makes sense. Also, it helps to have your facts straight.

P.S. God called and said that he never defined any definitions of anything. In fact he was sleeping while those boneheads in Washington were busy defining all their definitions.

I know. I'm going to try and go back to my original plan of not saying anything, might be too late now though.
