Well I've got all my eggs in 3 baskets as of right now. But to break 300, I don't know if that's going to happen for me... ](*,)

Well I finally got out of the starting blocks yesterday. Got out on Cda and got my first two pike in the boat. Both fish were 26", 5 pounders and put up a great fight for little fellers. Not stellar numbers but the weather was awesome and had a ton of fun.
I didn't manage to hook anything on my new fly rod but I got to watch my neighbor catch his first pike ever, and he did it on a fly rod. I think we may have a new pike lover among us.
Check out the new sun protection gear in this photo. Ya gotta love the new shirt and neck gaiter. The gaiter wasn't to bad in 75-80 degree weather. I wonder how comfortable it will be when the warm temps last all day and get even hotter.

I also have a goal to beat my personal best twice this year. Once before i go to Canada and again once I get there. I hope to top the 30 pound mark this year.
Only your wife gets to call you the fool ????
You give yourself the name fish n fool and expect only your wife to call you the fool? You gotta be kidding yourself. You are the fool Mr. like it or not.
As for 300 pike this year. That's a pretty tall order, even when you're going to last mountain lake. My arms were tired catching 142 pike up there last year, in 6 days of fishing. You better take that glidin rap with you and tie it on tight. Those big suckers will have their way with it up there. Good luck with the 300 mark. I'm headed out tomorrow looking for more.

Boated one more pike yesterday bringing me to three for the year. Admittedly a slow start but we got three in the boat between two of us, and had several others that hit without hooking up. Several others followed to the boat that would not bite. We're finding fish, we just need to get them biting more aggressively. They're getting more active and things should look up very soon. Also released a 3.5 and a 4.5lb smallie within about 10 minutes of each other. The Ice Breaker bass tourney was going on. Lots of boats out. I'll bet some of those guys would liked to have had those smallies. [drool]

So I have got 4 more Pike to the boat since my last post which brings me to 27 on the year. Only 273 to go lol
No pixs to show off as they were all small at less then 5 lbs. so I didn't bother. Hope to add to the Pike tally this Sunday with a good trip to the land of monster pike.

I'm headed back to Cda in the morning. Good luck if you're headed to last mountain next week. Hopefully the ice is all gone and the fish are biting for you. [thumbup]

Man my butt is sore from getting it kicked the last couple of times out. Yesterday I got one midget pike. Yep, that's it, ONE. However I got to watch the guy that went with me catch 6. Nothing of any size but a 6 to 1 butt kicking is not something I was expecting. Ouch. I really gotta get this spring fishing stuff figured out. We got all fish in 3-5 feet of water. Temps were from 46 in the morning to 56 late in the day. All but one came on spoons.
I hate to say it but I now have "FOUR" (looks like more when you spell it in all caps) pike on the year.

I'm gonna have to send an email to Esox Lucius films and shake their tree about finishing that last mountain lake film from the 2015 trip. That little teaser needs to be about a 30 minute program.

Nearly every year I fish the Lester Smith pike tourney, and every year I seem to have trouble finding pike for that tourney. Normal is for them to start biting for me right after the tourney. I got out with the Packernut yesterday and had a dismal day of fishing. He got 3 pike and one bass, and I managed only one bass and one pike. Lost a real nice largie but that doesn't make me feel any better. The weather this year seems to be a little ahead of normal. Hopefully the pike thought the tourney was this weekend, and they will start biting for me next weekend, when the tourney is actually going on. Man I hate this early season slump, but I seem to have it every year. I gotta get this spring fishing thing figured out.

One fish yesterday brings me to 5 on the year.

So I took a weekend buzz over to Nebraska to meet up with my dad and my buddy for some pike fishing. My dad ended up not coming because his knee was giving him some serious problems. Between 2 of us we caught 60 fish in 2 days. 4 bass, a walleye and 55 pike. I caught 8 pike and an 18inch large the first day and 28 pike the 2nd day. That brings my total to 36 pike on the year. I will post pictures later. The biggest pike was only 29 inches the rest were between 16 and 22.5. The walleye was 21.5 inches.

The pike talley officially has begun.

Well, finally got the pikeometer started yesterday for 2016. Got a 29 inch x 5 1/2 lb. nice politically incorrect pike out of the' Columbia near Kettle Falls. It was great--pulling line all over. Like Babe Winkleman says "there ain't nuttin like big pike fishing, nuttin like it!".

Well my slow start to the year got a little boost over the weekend in the Pike tourney on Cda. Unfortunately we didn't manage any big ones but we had a lot of fun. We finished day one with a limit of keepers and it looked as though we were in the top 30 or so out of 105 teams. We were way behind the leaders and hitting the payout spots so on Sunday we just fished for fun and numbers. I added 6 pike to my total on Saturday and another 8 on Sunday. 14 more brings me to 19 on the year. Saturday my biggest fish was 27" and the big fish of that day was 27 POUNDS. A beauty of a fish.

We were able to find some active pike again yesterday but I'm still not landing anything of any real size. I managed to miss a fish in the 8lb range yesterday when it short struck my spinner bait close to the boat. I added 11 more to my total for the year bringing me to 30 so far. Finally a good day numbers wise. Likely would have found a few more but had to cut it short and go pick up the wife at the airport. Water temp in the main lake was 56 degrees but we saw as high as 68 in the chains. 9 of my 11 pike were caught on soft plastic frogs, one on a spoon and one on a spinner bait. Main lake weed beds are coming along nicely. They should be hitting the surface in the next couple of weeks, making fish easier to pinpoint. Most of our fish were in the 4 to 8 FOW range.
