Man this hot weather has th pike in the fasting mood. I fiashed all day on cda and the chains with a co worker and we scratched out 5 pike and 1 nice bass. I lost a real nice bass but got to watch as the little piggie (guessing 5lb+) jumped about 3 feet out of the water and shook the hook. The pike we got came on spinnerbaits and spoons. 2 more for me brings my total to 171 for the year. I guess I shouldn't complain. I'm about 100 fish ahead of where I was at this time last year. This fish was a 29 incher. (woops I just had to edit the length of the fish)

I'm heading to the CDAs for 4 days this week for a good run at the pike. Hopefully the chance of storms changes their mood!

Took the grandkids out for pike today in Kettle Falls Roosevelt area. They scored with a 29"X13"X 6.5 lbs. and a 31"X14"X8.2lb.. Real fatties. They are eating well in their relocated home. The boys have 4 years experience and I have 63. They have gotten (four) 5 to 8 pounders last 3 Roosevelt trips. I have zero. Just proves my old adage: "fishing is 98% luck and the rest is all skill".

Well boys, it's time to get back at em. I'll be back on Cda tomorrow with Mark K in search of a regenerated Pike Bite. Hopefully the water has cooled and these fish are ready to give us a big day. I haven't fished pike for over a month now and I'm getting the shakes. Hopefully we will have some good size and numbers to report soon.
Thank god there were some walleyes around to be caught or I may have been in intensive care from a lack of fishing.
Stay tuned!

Added 5 more pike to my total for the year bringing me to 176.
The ones I got were 25", 27", 27", 30", and my new personal best at 45 1/2" with a 20" girth. I'm sure glad Mark K was along for the trip to handle the net on the big one. He's a great scooper.
Who needs last mountain Lake when you live 45 minutes from Cda.
OK I need Last Mountain Lake. I loooooove that place.

Fished the main lake at Cda yesterday with the wife coming along. Aparently the pike were off somewhere else enjoying the sunshine, and not laying in wait in numbers in the locations I have been finding them lately. I did mamage 2 more bringing my total to 187 for the year. Looks like I'll finally get that 200 fish season. I was at 106 at this point last year. (Thank you last mountain lake!!)
I released 2 pike and lost a FAT smallie right beside the boat that surely would have gone 5lbs. It was a nice fish. If I was a little quicker I could have caught him in the air as he jumped anpout 2 feet out of the water and nearly hit the boat on his way down. You gotta love the fight in those fish. I missed about a half dozen other pike on the day. One of those was about a 10lber that hit a spinnerbait. She knocked slack in my line and when I set the hook those pesky teeth shaved off my 80lb flourocarbon leader and I watched her slowly swim away with my brand new spinner bait hanging out of her mouth. I hope she shook it loose later. I only managed to get 2 pike in the boat but they were both nice fish with the first measuring 28" and the second was a 36" 11-1/2 pounder that made three nice runs and put up a nice battle. spinnerbaits in 10 feet of water got both fish again. Water temps were 63-66 throughout the day.

Hello fellow Pike Lovers!

Yes, I had to respond to this article, oh and before I get started, CONGRATS to AJ's Dad on the 2 "SLOBBY DONKEY's" as put in Lucius words. Those are both Pigs!!!

In regards to the article, not only does it make me ridiculously sick to my stomach, but it sounds like it is making the IDFG spin in circles over this situation. If the tribe is smart they will end this whole program and stop overstepping boundaries. In the end this whole "Catch for Cash" idea sounds great on the surface for someone looking to get paid. However looking at the underlying matter, they say that they will pay $5 for each fish and between $50 and $500 for tagged Pike, but you won't know they are tagged. That should be the First "Red Flag" or "Fine Print" that you never see on a commercial. Oh and who is to say they will stop at 1,000 Pike. Don't trust the underlying print that the tribe only wants 1,000 fish. That may be the starting baseline, however you can almost rest assure that over time this number will grow. Then the gill nets will start coming out by the loads and before you know it, no Pike will be safe. This will then give them reason to come up with stats and figures to bring to the State legislature to try and pass some BS law against the GREAT NORTHERN PIKE!!!

For those people who think this is a good idea, look at the big picture. Don't let the shiny gold thing fool you from the trap behind the curtain. Anyone who remembers a similar situation a few years back within Washington's borders will see it doesn't end well. Plus AJ's Dad, Myself, Lucius and many other's love coming to CDA and Fishing for these Amazing Fish! How much would it suck to have to explain to the next generation of Pike lovers that CDA used to be a GREAT fishery, but because of Pike haters it is no longer. Long Live ESOX LUCIUS!!! Tight Lines All!

4 more pike on Saturday got me to 191 for the year. The Packernut and I fished the main lake, beating up several spots before we found some fish. There wern't loots of them but they were once again of good quality.
I think I will always refer to 2015 as the "Donkey Days of September" Hopefully I will refer ti it as the "Donkey Days of Fall" and the lake will continue to rpoduce big fish!!
I released a 26", a 28", a 33", and a real nice 41"er. They hit bright colored spinnerbaits and the Rapala Glidin Rap in 5-10 feet of water. Releasing 3 pike over 40" and several more between 30 and 36" has made for a great month. I just hope it continues.
Check out the vertical lines on the big one. 25 years or so of pike fishing I have seen many patterns on these fish but this is the first time I remember seein thiese lines. Cool fish. It sure was athletic, it jumped completely out of the water trying to ditch my spinnerbait.

PS. If you guys ever need a top notch net guy, just take the Packernut along. He loves to net big fish for you. [flapper]
