Great to see you guys getting it done. I haven't even sniffed a northern since my last CDA trip. Between family, work and hockey, my schedule has been pretty full. Will be meeting up with Mark K and others in the near future. Keep posting those pictures/updates. Good luck to everyone this season!

So apparently the pike didn't get my memo that I was going to be fishing for them this past weekend. Next time I will send the memo a month in advance....jeez. Nate caught some so good for him especially before he shoves off. I will let him post the pics and or share his butt whopping of hime and his boy vs AJ's Dad and Myself. AJ Dad did catch a 14" crappie that weighed in at 2 lbs caught on a nice sized jerk bait.....

I really need to get this monkey off my back!!!! ](*,)

Alright so after being harassed enough from the Prince of Pike here is my final tally from this past weekend on CDA!

Caught 4 Northern Pike, first two I didn't even measure just for the shear embarrassment that they hit my lure, which was almost as big as they were... The other 2 were half way respectable at 20 and 21 inches! Had a 5th one on at boat side but came unhooked, this one looked to be about 25 or 26 inches. Other than this got a nice 14 inch largemouth and my little man got about a 12 inch catfish or bullhead depending on where you are from. Sorry didn't take any photos of these fish, didn't think they were eligible to be counted but I guess a fish is a fish! I did get some nice pictures of someone else's fish but I will let him post if he would like... Don't be shy you know who you are :salut:

Well I finally had a good day out there thanks to Farmer-AA's guide service. I fished with he and AESOX last night and managed to put 5 pike in the boat. All fish were in the 22 to 25" range, 5 more brings me to a total of 8 for the year. I should be heading out again tomorrow so we'll see if I can add to that. Thanks for the quick trip Aaron. It was short but fun fushing with you and Arthur again.

I added two more to the year's tally on May 8th, small ones in the 20 and 21" range.
9. ~20" (R) 10. 21" (R) Hoping that next week I can break out of the 20-23" maximum size!

Had another good day yesterday fishing the south end of Cda. I got 8 pike on the day wth a couple of 26"ers and the rest right at 23 or 24". Heaviest fish was 4lb 14oz. We missed many more and one that was lost at the boat was easily at 30" or better. [angry]
8 more brings me to 16 on the year, and I believe that gives me the lead
For now.

Added one more dink pike this evening. That brings me to 17 for the year. Can't say I didn't have other chances though. I hooked and lost 2 others that both looked like decent fish. Oh well.

I took off yesterday afternoon with "The King" and hit some waters on Coeur d' Alene I hadn't fished this year, at least by boat. Shallow stuff in spawning areas was key. We didn't do great for size, but saw some bigger fish that couldn't be convinced to feed. All in all, any double-digit afternoon is a good one. We fished a favorite spot in the evening and got blanked, though I missed two that seemed bigger. I threw AJ's Dad's favorite bait some (throwing back at missed spoon fish mostly) and cleaned up 4 misses that way. One I swung on late I have no idea how it missed. It was such a solid fish that it was like setting into a piling, if you know the feeling. Hurt my wrist a little, and still didn't hook up. Crazy! But we put ten in the boat, with King AESOX catching the biggest, near 28". He caught two yesterday. Water in the shallows was mostly 65-70 degrees, some clearing up, some still pretty stained.
As for mine, I caught 8 more...

I am a lucky boy that farmer_aa has been with me for my last three fish (and for that matter 6 of the 7 fish I have caught this year) because yesterday when I caught my personal best for the year my shaky hands colluded with the pike's ability to hide the hook deep in its cheek which left me at a disadvantage when it kicked out of my hands right before the picture. It's good to have some back up when you don't have photographic proof of your big pike (even if it was only 27.5").

But adding to my tally from before I have had: 21" (5-2-14 R) 27.5" (5-14-14 R) 21" (5-14-14 R)

Here is a photo of the fish from the second.

And here is to hoping for more numbers, more inches, and more trips out with farmer_aa and AJ'sDad

I got my butt kicked by a part time pike fisherman yesterday! I took a friend from work out for some pike action and he proceeded to give me a fishing lesson. I started out with our largest fish of the day, a 28" 5lb 10ozer. After that Jeff decided to show me how it's done. He busted out a 1/4oz spinner bait and put 8 pike in the boat on the day while I only managed 3 pike and a small LMB. I decided that his guide must have been better than mine. [flapper]
3 more gives me a total of 20 for the year. I guess I can't complain. By this time last year I only had 7 in the boat. I really have to work on this early season stuff.

I fished off and on Saturday and had a pretty good one, landing a couple of slightly bigger fish but still I think they were all probably jacks. Maybe the spawn is over in many places I fish, because no big fish were seen up shallow (water around 64). I started off the day early and didn't manage to catch a fish until AJ's Dad and Jeff showed up in his boat. For a couple hours it was pretty good for small fish, and I got 6 in that time while I think they got 8. I picked up another later in the afternoon with my oldest daughter and her friend in the boat, then caught a couple more in much colder (54 degree) water before going back to the shallows for one last fish. So here's the tally for Saturday, May 17th... 10 pikes, probably all post-spawn males.

Well, that will probably change in your favor soon enough. I'll try to put some bigger fish in the boat this weekend, though! Good luck if all of you make it out.

The King and I had a good evening on the water on Saturday, May 24 and a really good morning on May 25 for pike. I had a real nice fish hit, miss, then follow me in that I got a good look at that first night; a thick one that I would put anywhere between 12 and 15, but it's hard to know. 3 pike, 2 more lost, a 12" smallie, and a 14" and 15" largemouth. The king also caught a nice pike that night. All were very shallow in an area we hadn't fished, chasing bullheads and suckers, I'm thinking.
May 24th (Evening)
29. 23" (R) 30. 22" (R) 31. 24" (R)

The next day was quite active, and I finally caught a bigger fish. I also lost about a 30 incher shortly thereafter, but there was lots of activity for AESOX and I. Back to shallow water, hitting edges of old weeds matted on top and interspersed with newly emerging lily pads. Swimbaits were the best bet. I'll get back with the correct lengths, as my cellular fishing journal failed again.
May 25th (Morning)
9 Pike, the biggest being 36" and 12.5 lbs (pictured)
(Evening)
41. 26" (R) plus a 19" largie. Hope you all got out on the water, too!

Nice going aaron. Good to see you slay em before you have to get back to work and let the rest of us catch up a little bit. I didn't get out at all over the weekend. I have been working on my basement bathroom and some outside stuff. I'll be back on the water this saturday. Way to go!!

May 31 had three kids on the boat and 6 pike joined us! I think the big ones have left the shallows but I found smaller fish to be in an aggressive mood.

One quick shout out to Rick with Fish N Fool lures... I caught two on a 6" bait. These things have great action! I also caught some bass at my pond on them the other day. Definitely worth adding to the tackle box.

June 1 I got out for about an hour and a half in the evening. I missed quite a few and lost some others, but the little ones were aggressive again. I had two different fish blow up on one cast and both missed, but still fun!

You have 51 pike and I have 26???? This is not acceptable. I must get back on the water and close the gap!
Nice going. You're having a great year so far.
