Na, I's gotum sum tackle boxes, couple more rods, couple smaller spinning reels, maybe 1 or 2 casting reels, some lures - maybe. X-15 Lowrance paper chart depth finder, hope it works and didn't go bad just sitting there like the liquid crysel one did.

Ive been hearing rumors about them being sighted in Tapps....

Might be hard to keep my mind on Perch (no livewell) with the big fish out there.

Were looking forward to this event. We have been there the last few years and its always been a good time!

The perch can be catch and keep. I would ask the bass to be catch and release, but of course that's angler choice. The sturgeon are catch and release. :nemo:

Always been on land. Any type of gear you want to use....spinning or casting reel and whichever bait you feel comfortable with. I usually use a jig. You can use your own set-up or there will be a couple there to use. We toss into three rings, all in a row and each getting father and farther away. O-and Gringo is like 3-4 time defending Champ. Makes me sick to even think about.

Couple of pics from previous years just so you get the idea......

And yes, Dez will most likely be at the end taunting you. I mean.....cheering you on.

Hey everyone, let's get signing up -

$100 each for top weight bass and top weight perch is awaiting you.

You need to R.S.V.P. for the picnic!

Derby anglers will sign in at the boat launch prior to going out on the water. Just check in at the WL.com picnic area (there will be a overhead cover and I'll be setting up the picnic stuff) which will be right by the boat launch. You can start fishing up until 9am, but YOU MUST sign in at the picnic booth prior to going out on the water!

If you want to fish from shore, you can fish anywhere on the lake, but again, YOU MUST sign in prior to fishing.

There is NO COST to the derby this year - but please do sign up for the noon potluck and bring a food item.

The Derby ends promptly at NOON. Return to picnic area to weigh your fish. You can enter both a bass and a perch so you have the chance to win $200!

The Derby/BBQ is just 10 days away so be sure to sign up soon so I can figure out how much food to purchase.

We'll have an informal tackle/gear swap so feel free to bring stuff to trade/sell.

Don't forget - we'll also have a raffle for some nice prizes AND there will be free WL.com items for everyone. I'll also have t-shirts available for purchase at $10 each.

See you Saturday the 17th!

I see you said shore fishing is an option in the derby. Is there what you would call "very limited access" to shoreline?

I believe there is a pretty good amount of shore access around the park and and along the dike road. I'm not familar with the dikes as far as public access - from the overhead photo it looks like there is a lot of area. Also, the shore guys can fish anywhere on the lake - so long as they check in first and then return to the picnic with fish(es) in hand. I would really like to encourage catch and release on the bass if at all possible, so that makes it a bit more of a challenge for the shore guys. Maybe fill a cooler with water and bring the fish over for immediate weight/picture and release?

Yea, there is a fair amount of shore access to fish.

From what I understand, Dike 2a, 2b, 3 and 4 are off limits. Probably the partiers fault. Dike 4 should be fishable as far as Im concerned.

Dike 5 (between boat launch and swim area) can fish from boat launch side.

There is a calm area between dike 6 and 7 that is good for fishing.

I find that most perch will be in the weedlines close to shore. I mean most lakes produce perch 40 foot or less from shore. Is there a derby classification on the meaning of a livewell. If I have a hanging basket for bass off my toon does that count or not?I cant guarantee they will live though. Are there judges around to see a piggy if you just want to release it?

Yes, there will be someone around the WL.com site all day and that will be set up on the dike.

Little fun side bet for those who are going.........call the winning weights

Bass - Smallmouth 3.4 lbs
Perch - 1.8 lbs.

And I will catch the smallmouth.

I will be there and bring a guest. I will bring soda/pop since that falls under my log on. Does anyone have extra fishing gear they can let me borrow for the fishing derby??

I'm sure there will be plenty of extra gear there. I'm trying to be able to go. I use spinning gear myself and have plenty of extra stuff.
