Thanks Mike and Nate. Interesting video, oddly we have been waiting for a weekend weather window to fish the Westport jetty and a few of the other structure oriented locations in Grays Harbor. I have a "plan" based on some of my SoCal inshore techneques. I think it will be a killer if we can align our free time with a weekend weather window.

I don't have audio on the work computer, but it looked like a lot of bobbin' and weavin' from where I'm sitting. Thx. for posting this, as a lot of us have thought about taking a trip out to the Westport jetty.

Now that I have done it, I wouldn't rule out fishing it again. I do believe that getting as close as we did wasn't totally neccesary. Also, the end of the jetty is incredibily rough. At high tide we would cross over a spot that was maybe 10 ft deep. Low tide you could easily find yourself slammed down on the hidden end - and I'm talking a good hundred feet away from the visible end of the jetty. The video was hard to really show this, but ya, it was kinda hairy. Made for some big swells and that was on a not super windy day. Also, when the tide turned and headed out, as the boat went past the end of the jetty it was like a sling shot - in a matter of moments we would be a good several hundred yards out into the ocean. Again, very hairy.

rseas, I've no doubt your cali experience would mean you wouldn't be nearly as anxious as I was. I think Nate got a chuckle out of my anxiety, LOL. 8-[

I updated the Westport video to include a bit of information about the gear we used.

I did have a little laugh at it. :) I wasn't nearly as anxious as Mike, but I can see where he's coming from. Getting the slower drift is the key to catching the fish, the wind was a PIA to fight. When slack tide came around we hit the fish in quick succession and ended the day when it turned around. Although I get a kick out of the fact that a lot of fishermen are wishing they had a boat, thinking they'd catch more fish, but from the rocks I could have guaranteed limits all round. But also a good long scamper over the jetty.

You guys seem to do ok out there the way that you fish. But yea, when I do make it out there, I always get jealous looks as we're hauling out a limit of big lings, and they struggle for the rock fish. I grew up on those darn rocks, I should be able to catch fish, aye? Once you see how I do it, you're going to laugh. Nobody believes me when I do give away the secrets!

How long does the fishing stay good out there, and what are the chances of pulling in a salmon when the area is open for them? Is it a year-round thing for the bottom fish, or better in certain seasons?

Ya, it's hard to see some of those rollers on the video - and it was a relatively calm day
