Camping Recommendations (On/near a Lake)

Post by superman71 » Tue Jun 10, 2014 7:29 pm

I'm looking to go camping with my family (wife and two kids) and my in laws who are pulling a RV.

Any recommendations? I'm looking for a spot that drivable from Spokane and not more then four hours from Seattle area...

Potholes,or banks both of those fit the bill.

Banks State Park
Potholes State Park
Bridgeport State Park

I've been to all 3 of those places. I would rank Banks the best overall. Has better bathrooms, better hiking trail, cleaner water(lake) and overall, less mosquitoes.

Potholes does have much better camp sites IMO. As in, shady and not full of geese/deer crap. There seem to be a wider range of birds at Potholes, if that's your thing. Oh, both Potholes and Banks has a huge playground for kids. This giant jungle gym thingy.

Lake Chelan (good luck getting a spot) Lake Roosevelt has many campgrounds on it. Bridgeport state park is nice. Jameson lake is arid, but a choice. My favorite is Lake Curlew, but may be too far from Seattle for you. The state park is great, with nice facilities.

Sprague Lake...It's right on I90 and there are two different, privately owned, RV/camp areas on opposite sides of the lake. Both have full facilities and boat launches. Bring ear plugs because it is also right on the BNSF tracks and the trains sound their horns at the crossings and there is about two trains an hour.

We're headed to Sunbanks Lake Resort for the holiday weekend. Will be able to keep the boat in the water right at the campsite.

Hi Cobra. I'd definitely recommend Baker lake. There's a resort and several boat launches. They even allow boat camping. The scenery is spectacular. We're heading up there when the general season opens =D> (((((Fish On)))))

It may be a bit longer of a drive than you wanted, but East Lake near Bend Or is great. RVs, campsites and cabins are available as well as great fishing. I try to make it out that way whenever I can.
