Potholes,Seep lakes area?

Post by Lefty » Sun Dec 21, 2008 11:31 pm

First and foremost, What an awesome forum! I just discovered it today. I am an Oregonian but love the hardwater!!! I do quite a bit of ice fishing here in Oregon for trout but would like to start learning a little bit about catching Crappie, perch, gills and Walleye through the ice.

I have fished Soda Lake and a few others in the area during open water season. Does anyone fish these lakes through the ice? Which are the best lakes for hardwater action in this area? Is anyone fishing them now and have an ice report? It's about 2 1/2 hours for me to run up there so I'd like to get an idea before I head out. I have tried calling Mar-Don resort but they act as if ice fishing doesn't exist west of Colorado and haven't been any help.

Any help you guys can offer is greatly appreciated!

Lefty welcome to the forums! Besides going out to the lake to check the thickness of the ice another way is to go to weather.com and pull up the zip code of Soda lake and check what the weather has been for the last several weeks. If the weather has been cold in teens for few weeks your good to go. Here in Eastern Washington most of our lakes got frozen over the last couple weeks. Good Luck and let us know how you do.

I see that Tri Cities is only an hour away from you, I've never fished in the area but you might be able to find something out there.

Thanks, Kfedka. I do keep track of all the temps in the regions I fish. Here in Oregon most of our high lakes have got a good 8 to 10" of solid ice on them right now. I know they do some hardwater fishing on Potholes I just haven't done any there yet. As for the Tri Cities, it has been pretty cold the last few weeks but generally the climate there is just too mild for any hardwater action. I am a faithful hockey fan so I'm generally in Kennewick atleast twice a week. I called Mar-Don resort again on Thursday but the lady I spoke to didn't have a clue. Still looking for some updates in that region from guys that fish it.
