Football head jig molds

I don't have a mold for football heads, but I've been looking at them. There are several different styles. I've heard that bass jigs made with 60 degree hooks give more consistent hook sets than jigs made with 90 degree hooks because they don't obstruct the point of the hook as much. The "screwlock" models would also be sweet because a soft plastic trailer could be used to make the jig weedless and it would also stand up better than a trailer that's threaded onto the hook. Most bass jigs have an insert of plastic fibers to make them weedless, but I'm thinkin' that hook sets would be better with a screwlock + a soft plastic trailer.

If your looking for a jig and pig, I'd definetely go with the fiber guard. When I'm out in LW, I just use a normal head with no screw lock or fiber.

Out of those two, the weedless. But I'm in the same boat as kzoo, I like the plain old normal football head.

I use the do-it FBB-4H-AFMwith mustad BLN798 hooks (60-degree flat eye). You can also use 60-degree normal eye hooks in that mold. Use the base hole pins and you can cast them without the weedguard and glue one in later if you want.

Don't mean to cause problems, but I want to disagree on this one.

The stand up style head show is bettter for getting through rocks and gravel, although it will snag. It will slide along the bottom, but it does not rock.

The traditional football head will rock the offering up and down, call it a stand up that moves more. It hands up on just about any obstruction, but it moves more.

I prefer to have both styles in my box of tricks. Fishing at 60' in Roosevelt on the sand flats just seems better with the football style, but hitting the gravel/rock slides and clift edges is so much better with the other.

Those are some nice looking jigs Dilbert! Thanks for the tip about the weedguard. I didn't realize it was possible to cast them with a pin when you don't want a weedguard. It's nice to have the option.

How do football jigs do in heavy cover? I've heard that slim heads are better in cover and football heads are good for rocks and open areas.
