Now we are going camping at Ocean Shores this weekend. Been there several times, never tried fishing around there. I have read about Duck Lake there and will try to give that a try. Does anybody know of any other spots to fish and species to fish for from shore?

Fish the ocean beaches for surf perch. Dig/clam gun/pump your own sand shrimp from the bay and you've got the best bait going. You can fish from right next to the jetty all the way down the beach. The closer you get to the jetty the more likely you are to hook into something other than perch such as flounder. Just keep moving until you find a school and it can be non-stop can't get the bait back in the water fast enough kind of fishing. I rig up with a 3 oz pyramid sinker and double rig two bait hooks about a foot and a foot and a half above the sinker, yes double headers do happen when fishing this way. If you have waders bring them just in case the temps don't agree with you.

G-man has got it right!...When I was a kid, my dad was one of the original owners of Ocean Shores and we would fish down on the jetty and could get everything from perch to salmon and black cod down there. It's been years since I have fished there, but I'm sure there are still fishing going on at the jetty. You will see lot's of people fishing if the fish are running. We used sand shrimp and pieces of razor clams. If you are fishing in Duck Lake try spinners...they seem to work well...Green or red works for me,try www.FishCreekSpinners.com.....That lake was one of the best bass lakes....I'm sure it is still pretty good.

If you want to have a killer time head up the beach to the Quinault Reservation and get a guide and keep all the fish you can catch. The last time I went (2008) we got 21 Salmon and Steelhead and a bunch of trout and jacks.

Another place is fishing off the little bridges along the beach road for anchovies... small gold hooks only....We got hundreds when I was a kid and fried them up in butter, garlic and boy were they good! Don't know if they still can be caught but as I remember it was in the summer that we got them. North of Oyhut off a small bridge. Some people were dipping for them in the surf also. You can try for Dungeness crab at low tides fishing in the tide pools north of Ocean Shores. Take a rake and slowly drag it along in the pools and the crab will spook and rise up and run...Then it is time for the kids to grab for them or turn them over to see if they are males....Lot's of fun. Be careful not to hurt the crab...(Illegal) Just drag the rake slowly and you will feel their backs.....feels like a rock. Go gitem!

Good luck to you and enjoy your self, Steve
