I have lived here for almost two years now and this is the first i am going to get to fish the whole first half of the salmon season. When do the pinks show up and how far south do they go. I have a small boat that I take out of solo point quite a bit lately and I am wondering when I should start looking for the pinks and kings and what the best techniques are. Thanks for any advice guys

I believe the pinks come in thick around mid august to early sept in the puget sound area. I haven't fished the south sound for them, only up by port angeles and in hood canal. I know they have runs that go to the southern puget sound, like the puyallup river. If you're going to go after them from a boat the best way to fish for them would be using a pink hoochie behind a dodger, using a downrigger or a deep dix diver if you don't have a downrigger. If you're going to fish from shore you can just use a pink buzz bomb.

Pinks go all the way down to the nisqually delta. You can usually find them schooling close to shore. Try area 11 near browns point/dash point in early to mid august and the mouth of the puyallup after it opens. Use the pink hoochies(Fake Squid), pink vibrax spinners(remember to change the treble hook off for a single point), pink buzz bombs and pink corkies and yarn. Troll them or cast towards shore when you locate them. They will hit anything pink. You will see them porpoising(surfacing). For kings try trolling between solo point and ketron island stay close to the bottom with hoochies, plug cut herring, plugs, coyote spoons.

Oh 1 other thing is watch the Dechutes in Tumwater it is a little river that gets quite a few kings towards the end of summer. Both blow and above the falls but make sure to check the regs. there is a lot of different rules#-o

Here's an article that shows some of the predicted numbers for some of the rivers for pinks, guess it's going to be a good one.

You are in for a great experience fishing for pink salmon this season as the prediction is for over 5.1 million fish returning to Puget Sound. WDFW states this is the largest return in 10 years. This means when they are in thick, (as already mentioned late August into September) it’s a fantastic fishing experience and the limit is 4 each per day which is nice and often easy to attain. I can't wait!!!!! The data from the WDFW is found at

I am wondering how accurate these predictions are? Have any predictions been close to being correct in the past years? For any of the salmon runs.

Millions of kitty litter will make it back low in value to many the Kings and Coho could be dented some:-$ as numbers predicted coming home as they will be a $$value for nets and more:-$ but still stronger then the last few years/ocean survival rates were awesome this year and staying colder longer helped as well
:compress: :chef:
The yard cannot wait!!!!:bounce: :thumleft:
