i used to always buy bait at joes because i got my employee discount, but seeing as how thats not an option anymore, i was wondering where people went and what stores seemed to have the freshest bait on your opinions, or if you catch your own id love some tips on that (this is concerning herring mostly) thanks

If you have a boat i have had luck by getting into a bait ball and using a common herring jig set up and have caught several dozen in no time doing this. I have even caught them by casting the jig from shore as well.

bait, tackle, gear, etc, I usually take a drive out to Outdoor Emporium now thats Joes is shut down.

Outdoo Emporium seems to have relatively descent prices and a large selection.

I dont mind frozen herring in brine solution.Frozen on its own does suck but its better then nothing.Scents work real well and keep the doggies off your lure. All other baits I get at Lincs Tackle on Rainier Ave South.Herring jigs are hella easy to make and work well,if you find the bait.Auburn Sports has nice bait selection,Also the old Outdoor Emp has bait. Seacrest Boathouse used to but I'm not sure right now.Buds in Possesion is by far the best. There is a bait store in Mukilteo that sells fresh herring also.Im exshausted from thinking now.......

Is herring the all purpose saltwater bait? I'd like to take some rockfish, lingcod or salmon next month from the shore.

What about shrimp? I used shrimp previously for salmon/steelhead on the Columbia over at Ringold hatchery.

Narrows Marine had live herring all last year but I went there once this year and they were out.

Another vote for catching your own. Sabiki rigs work great, just wet each hook/fly with some anchovy oil and you should bring them in 6 at a time! Find good schools to work and you'll catch all you need in no time.

Clams or pile worms for bottom fish.Even prawns work fine.Herring for salmon, doggies, hake and flounder.(also ratfish)
