Flounder out of everett?

Hi Everyone,

Going to be taking the boat out this week and was told there is some decent flounder fishing out of the Everett (8-2 , 10th st boat launch) area?

Was hoping someone could lend some thoughts on specific areas to target?

Will have some smaller kids there so just looking for them to catch something and not be bored.

If I head up towards shipwreck from the boat launch in Everett is that a good area?

Second question was, is it too early to nab some dogfish out in that area?

Thanks, hoping to get some people hooked on fishing :)

-Marc

I dont fish that area much, but you can generally find the sand dabs/flounders in shallow sandy areas where its fairly flat. Look for areas like that on the chart in 50-75 feet or less.

I havent caught a stupid dogfish in a few years so cant help there. Ive been meaning to try the special tricks to make them edible but never got around to trying it. You eat them?

I don't but I was told similar by some people who do eat them and was meaning to give it a try.

Was told when they are there, they bite like crazy, we're mainly looking for something to catch, kids don't do well if they catch nothing :)

Yeah, if you're fishing with bait, and they are around, you cant keep them off! They fight reasonably well so the kids will like that too.

Good luck!

I've caught quite a few good sized flounders around picnic point, mainly while throwing buzz bombs from shore for pinks. Bet if ya got out in 30 to 60 ft of water in that area with some nightcrawlers, you'd get amount of them.

Eldger Bay off Camano is a great place for Flounder and the doggies too. I have eaten the dogs. You have to clean them right away after catching them IMO. When they die they release Urea and its soaks out thru the skin. So I literally clean them at the boat side as I bring them in. the meat is White, Flakey and makes great chips and no bones

You can literally just go out around the corner of the jetty and start fishing. There is a huge silt delta that comes out from the Snohomish River. That's where everyone crabs in the summer. Just anchor in 25 feet of water and give it hell.

Shrimp chunks or nightcrawlers.

Thanks Matt! We'll give that a go next time!

We'll be crabbing for the first time this year (only had the boat 2 years).

We went over by Hat Island and caught 5 decent sized Rock Sole and a few Sand Dabs in 4 hours, everyone had a good time and the weather was awesome.
