In a half-dozen hours off South Beach last week, I got a total of one fish on the line trying several types of gear (3" spoon, 2.5" buzzbomb with a 2" pink squid on the hook, or a 4" pink squid behind a white flasher

All those will work for Pinks. I use a size 1 siwash hook for casting buzz bombs, and when trolling spoons I use 2/0 to 5/0 hooks (size varies on the size of the spoon). For hoochies I usually use 3/0 to 5/0 on 40 lb mono leader. We're usually targeting Coho, but have no problems hooking Pinks with that gear.

Rig in this order for buzzbomb

Size 1siwash hook. Tie on 15 to 18 inches 15 lb fluorocarbon. Black Rubber bumper. 6mm red bead. 2.5 inch pink buzzbomb. 6mm red bead. Size 7 to 10 barrel swivel.

Rod and reel. 4000 series shimano reel or equivalent spooled up with 20 to 30 lb braid. Use 8 1/2 to 10 1/2 foot medium action fishing rod.

And the number #1 thing to do. Put smelly jelly shrimp scent in your lure and all the way up your leader to the swivel. It makes a huge difference.

Cool. That's new to me. How often do you re-apply?

Yep, shrimp scent smelly jelly. Reapply when you stop catching fish. As others have said, a #1 gami siwash for buzz bombs and 2/0 red gami octopus hooks for hoochies.

Agree with the smelly jelly! Also, has anyone tried trolling pink wiggle hoochies behind flashers for pinks? I figured the extra action couldn't hurt. Just curious.....I have a few in the tackle box and was going to try them this weekend.
