Fishing & Crabbing in Hood Canal

Post by ronkimlukeabby » Fri Aug 07, 2015 1:00 pm

I'm heading up to Belfair next week and need some advice on where and what to use to catch salmon. We'll be up at the end of the inlet in Belfair, and just want to get my son on the water and hook something (pinks, chinook). Would love to know how far out I have to go to find decent fishing and what tackle is working.

Also have a few crab pots I want to drop down. Is there any crab up by Belfair? Or can I drop my pots and fish farther towards the mouth?

anything pink .. if your close to sportco head there they have a huge sale going on .. use jigs my self mostly stay really close to shore like 20- 60 feet look for fining fish jumping .. green and white are the go to's for kings buy you have to fish some times a lil deeper look for birds bait fish balls on the fishfinder

As far as I know the closest place you will find pinks on the Hood Canal is Hoodsport. I am not sure if any other river south of there gets any pinks. Sometimes jigging off of Bald point across from union can get you a king.

That far down in the canal is pretty much a dead zone. Your going to have to get around the bend a ways to have much of any chance at a fish of any kind.

i launch at union, fish and crab in that area which includes hoodsport, mouth of skoke and mouth of tahuya. do pretty well. done plenty of c&r cutthroat fishing by twanoh park. seen people fishing the mouth of the union river in belfair but other then summer chum and a couple sturgeon I don't know what goes in there.
