Hood canal crabbing

I've never crabbed out of hood canal. I want to go on my kayak this weekend. Is it safe for a kayak? Should I worry about tides? How much rope should I use? I'm sure I can find a launch but will take any suggestions. TIA.

Kayaks are pretty safe at Hood Canal. Where are you crabbing at? Yous should bring 100'. We go to Lilliwaup, it's got some decent depths there.

Somewhere around there, going to launch at the closest launch to hoodsport! So 100ft should be enough? I'm used to nisqually delta where you need 150-200

It has been a few years but, I have done well in 20 to 60 FOW off Potlatch park. If you want to go a ways out just off the flats closer to Union. Good luck.

You need less than Nisqually, there are no big current swings, so 100ft is fine.

I'm crabbing in Hood Canal now, though further north. I've seen regulars out there in kayaks. Just pick your spots. A bay out of potential wind and direct currents helps. I'm using 100'-125' of line and generally fish 50'-80' deep, getting limits always so far and most of last year.
