2014 Puget Sound Coho run

Last year I got my first ocean Silver on 8/21. Its early but nevertheless, if the rain doesn't start up soon, it may be one of those years where the Silvers are late, head for the rivers and spend little time in the Sound. Could be since this year I decided to spend the bucks and moor my boat at Everett expecting a run like last year. Blame me!

The Facebook posts are showing some action at Shipwreck, but there sure aren't a lot checking in on the creel reports. I'm thinking of hitting it early Friday.

I seem to recall reading somewhere that silvers come in a tad earlier with pink runs, but I could be dreaming. Last year 8/27 was our first trip, a very good day, then 9/2 and 9/9, 5 star days. They will come and you will catch them.

I was up at sekiu two weeks ago and did really well. I'll be visiting again this weekend but were not sure if we want to just head up to port Angeles or try our luck at possession bar. Well probably decide tomorrow night depending on what were hearing.

I stopped by the Everett ramp today abut 2:00. Fishcheckers checked 9 Coho. Talked to a few guys, nothing going on.

I have a buddy with property on Whidbey...said they are there from shore, and it's heating up more and more every day.

The much talked about "warm blob" off our coast (as in the Times today) has forced the Frazer Sockeye run to go north through Johnstone Strait to the Frazer. I'm beginning to wonder if the warm blob will delay our Silver run. Late Silver runs may head for the rivers and not hang around the Sound. Not good for boat guys.

Sekiu was slow this week with most fish that did come in being small. 5 lb or less. I got a 12 lb on thursday am and the fish checker said it was the big one for the week. Maybe it is starting now. It was looking like rain was coming when we left.

Saw multiple jumpers today and got a small one while fishing a beach on Whidbey.

Picked up a lot! CQ is running 1 1/2 fish per rod and they have to release wild fish. Everett is 1 fish per 2 rods. Run is looking to be starting out good.

I was out yesterday fishing Shipwreck to Possession. We had three fish on. All three got off when they hit the surface. So even though we got skunked I can't say the fishing was lousy (it was our own darn fault for not getting them in the boat).

Fished by myself today got two, but had to work at it. Fished the deep water most of the day, mid channel between Browns Bay and east Possession. Nada. Went shallow and got the two around 11 just south of the Wreck, shallow, 150-180 feet. Fast troll 3.5 to 4 on the gps.

I'll be fishing from the boat around Salisbury this weekend and will have a full report on Monday. Hoping the rain from earlier this week has brought in some fish.

Went out Friday by myself, got 2 and was done by 7:30. Same spot as above. Both fish had firecracker size herring in their gullets and the milt sacks and egg skeins were not well developed. Still feeding, don't look like they are ready for the rivers yet so they may hang around in the salt for awhile.

Edmonds Derby results were pretty much the same as last year. About 30% success and winner about same size..

Fished Saturday morning and I got skunked again. Marked tons of bait but couldn't put a fish to the boat.

No love today, except for the estimated 15 Pound king we caught and released. And I saw zero nets waving around Edmonds.
