Edmonds Pier Salmon fishing

I'm new to fishing and do not have access to a boat. I work near Edmonds and see a lot of people in the summer fishing from the pier. Does anyone know when is the best time of year to catch Chinook and Coho Salmon from the pier?

For salmon usually Late June through Mid-August for Chinook. Mid August through late September for Silvers. Odd years: Pinks will be running around from Very Late July through September. Also Sounded like somebody hooked and lost a Springer just the other day! Good luck out there! it's Like winning to Loto!

It's a wee bit early to be chasing salmon off the pier but it does happen from time to time. I too heard some one hooked a "Springer" while fishing for Ling along the rocks. Must have been cruising by and hit. Wouldn't be the first but.

I saw maybe 25 people trying for Ling that day and I heard only 1 legal, with a few just a little shy of. But it was nice to hear somebody hooked a salmon too. Actually that happened a couple years ago.

Of course the pier is going to be a case of days of the 1,000 casts and only snag ups to the cable or tires to show for it. That and tired arms/elbows/shoulders.

So what happens if you catch a fish that is not legal off the pier? Doesn't seem like you can safely toss it back into the water. Anyway I checked it out one day and it seemed pretty crowded. Not sure if it's really a place I would want to fish from. Thanks for the replies.

This year was neither a good nor normal year on the pier. The fisherman seemed to be out number by crabbers many to one it seemed. Hence I really didn't even try the pier this year at all.
