leader lengths?
planning on jigging for kings and silvers in the upcoming weeks, with the usual darts, jigs and buzz bombs, but this question always nags at me, how long of a fluorocarbon leader should i use? long? or short? 1ft? 2ft? 3ft? please help!!
Re: leader lengths?
for my butterfly jigs i use braid mainline, about 4ft of mono and a short steel leader since a dogfish took one of my jigs on my trevala rod. works fine.
Re: leader lengths?
I remember the first time I went shad fishing in the Columbia. Everyone around me was pulling in fish after fish and I had nothing - no bite nada. I had the same shad dart on as everyone else but (waay) heavier line. After much frustration I tried increasing the leader length and immediately got 3 fish in the next 3 casts. Others had light line with no leader and did fine. So long story short - use leader appropriate to rest of your rig.
