Prawn and jig for Chum in saltwater

Post by Bay wolf » Wed Oct 19, 2016 7:01 am

I used it in the rivers, but is it effective in the salt?

Not sure which search filter you are using, but they are there.

I tried for a couple hours fishing jig and prawn under a float in the salt and brackish water at John's Creek yesterday. Not a single sniff! So, I'm wondering if this is not a good method for fishing Chum in the salt..???

Unfortunately I had to sell my boat. Fishing from the bank. I thought the prawn and jig would work. Guess I should go get some "chovies" Kinda frustrating!

did you see any chum jumping?
Look for Wannafish A Lure on FaceBook
He said, “Throw your net on the right side of the boat and you will find some.” When they did, they were unable to haul the net in because of the large number of fish.

Been to John's Creek three times now.
First time was Sept 29. No Chum seen. Low tide till incoming.
Oct. 17. Afternoon low through incoming. Very few fish. Small schools coming in on the flood tide. Most in 4 or 6 fish. No really large schools.
Oct 19. Morning through afternoon low tide. No fish seen until tide started in. Saw 8 fish come up stream in about 6 hours. On flood, a few small pods of fish (5-6) running over the berm on the flood water. No large schools like we are used to seeing.
Some ol timer there said the run is over. Dunno, maybe. It should be going pretty strong right now, but very few fish.

If you got an empty seat for a Chum run, I'd be happy to pay my way. [biggrin] Been wanting to try the bobber from a boat!

Second hand report: A reliable friend of mine said he went to Hoodsport on Saturday. He said "Lots of Chum".

The "co-managers" net on Wed-Thur.

You might want to also check into Chico Creek? It's a short run from Brem. and should be going full tilt right now. Haven't heard any reports from there tho...

You probably would have better luck with a mooching rig and a sardine or herring injected with bait oils.
