report coming...

Yeah, sunday was an absolutely beautiful day on the water. Long stories for opener....crazy as usual. Anyway.....

We did manage a boat limit sunday(3), but all near the low slot. Tons of smaller fish. I heard other people doing pretty well, sounded like good fishin'. We were using herring, squid, and greenling. overall I heard the biggest fish coming from greenling...no big surprise there. Today was a little rough...lots of rain and wind picked up...only got small ones this morning.

44 days to go...Still some big fish out there!!
I have caught many fish in my life. The most exciting? The next one.....

It was 25.5 inches. It went back in the water. But it was fun on light tackle, I don't use my ling cod pole any more for the puget sound lings. Ten pound test is enough on my 6-12 okuma that I use for kings. They just don't have the size to them that I'm used to out in the ocean, but they still beat a 12" trout by a long shot.

jeolous. I'm tired of getting skunked on puget sound. Been down there a couple hours at least every day since it opened, and it's slow.

We were about 15 miles offshore. It was amazing. They were hitting anything you threw down there. Pipe jigs, herring, squid. 4-5 hookups at a time. My brother even pulled in a double!

Yea, I know Russel. I saw that fish, it was ginourmous. There are some big cabbies out there, and the season is open longer for 'em, I'm gonna keep fishing for 'em after ling season is over. I think the pier gets a lot of pressure during ling season, and they get cleaned out pretty well early on. I've got a couple undersize ones, but incrementally there are less and less fish being caught. It was 9 that I could confirm opening day, then it went down to 6, and then maybe one or two a day since then. The baitfish at the pier are nonexistent and that may have something to do with it, although I did see some salmon heading south munch through a big school of candlefish, which is a good sign. We think they may have been sockeye going toward the lake, or blackmouth, or some early showing fish, I don't know, but that's a good sign nevertheless. The bass are biting now, so I may go out for them.

we went out on tuesday out of westport. It was a chartered boat by westport charters called the discovery. It was a great time, we caught out 15 halibut in about a hour and a half and then we went for lingcod and got our ling in another hour or so. If anyone is looking to go on a chartered trip the captain and crew on the discovery were amazing. also went on wednesday and got some shrimp out by bainbridge, my fridge in freezer is full of goodies for a couple of weeks

Here is the opening day results of the opening for spearing lingcod...We were down about 90ft off of Gedney island. Visibility was only about 5' so it was a bit of a chore locating some fish, but we were successfull in getting these two guys.

Nice job again boys....glad to see you guys venturing north!

been fishing the sound the last few days and have been getting some good fish!
heres one from two days ago. Our measureing stick in the back gound was only 48inches this ling hung over a few more!

And yes the fish was realsed unharmed.

ive only kept two lings out of the 36 ive caught this year, No need to keep everyfish we catch fellas. Saw and talked to two divers the other day with their wives And kids with them so that they could limit out the boat! ( claimed they did that beacuse they are only allowed one fish! )
