Central Nebraska Channel Cat

Thought you all might enjoy the email I got today.
A little background 1st:
My aunt and uncle live in north/central Nebraska, Valentine to be exact.
They spend their summer days (weather permitting) on their pontoon boat
fishing for walleye and whatever else they can catch out of the Merritt Reservior that is near their home.
He is 78, a retired cattle rancher and as tough as they come.
Had both heart surgery and surgery to remove cancer from his lung just over a year ago.
She is a small woman, in her early 70s, a retired teacher and as sweet as he is tough.
If she is not fishing she is canning, making preserves to enter in the county fairs, or knitting someone a
blanket/sweater/kleenex box cover/etc, definitely not one to brag or inflate a story.
"Mom's old pole" is a rod/reel setup that belonged to my grandmother and is probably older than I am (40+).
It is used to still fish (drown worms) while stopped to have lunch.
Anyway, I thought I'd share..

I can't wait for retirement!"We went fishing today. It was supposed to be nice but it was misty and cool and we quit early.
We only caught one fish and I didn't have my camera so you'll have to take my word for it.
It was a catfish that was 33 inches long and too heavy for Bill's little scale that goes up to 28 pounds.
We both guess it at about 30 pounds. It took quite a while to get it in.
Then after Bill got it netted he couldn't get it over the railing of the boat so had to drag it around to one of the gates.
I caught it on Mom's old pole. Anyway we didn't want to eat it and it was too big for the fish well so we finally just
turned it loose. It was lots of fun anyway. He was from one side of the boat to the other and we had been pulled up to
the bank when I hooked him and must have been 100 feet out in the lake by the time we got it in. We couldn't get even
another bite so quit right after lunch."
