Countdown to Deer Season

Post by MackPrince » Fri Sep 26, 2008 4:43 pm

Well, the boat has been winterized, and now it's time to sight in the rifles. Anyone else getting the itch to chase some whitetails?

No whitetails for me, only muley's. But yes I am getting the itch to get out there.

My wife has been getting a kick out of me planning the annual Veteran's Day trip to the lodge. I'm just hopeful I can find last year's daddy.

Yep, I've got the itch, too, but am unsure whether to chase whitetails or muleys this time around. The 30-30 and 444 are dialed in for the whitetails and the 243 and 30-06 are muley ready.

Hey, I see dozens of guys buying 40 lb. bags of feed corn, salt and mineral blocks, apple syrups and scents, etc. Baiting, I presume. I've never tried it. Is it legal in this state?

I looked at the regs, but did not see anything specific about scents, minerals, and feed as bait. As for hunting by a feed/corn spreader I have no idea. You can always check with the Eastern WA DFW @ TeamSpokane@dfw.wa.gov.

-For me it depends on my mood when I head out if I'll carry a 30-30 or '06. On stand I generally use the '06 so I can reach out and touch something if I need to, and the 30-30 seems to have some bad voodoo from the previous owner as I don't usually see anything when I carry it. Maybe this will be the Marlin's year of redemption.
