Believe it or not, it is because of the current presidential administrations drive to implement further gun control laws. Why is this drive causing such a panic? Because people who used to be on the fence regarding gun control are now hopping off to side in favor of severe restrictions because of the recent shootings that took place in Newton and Aurora. What really should be happening is mental health reform, but that costs money, so it didn't get much traction after Obama mentioned it while addressing the nation shortly after the Newton shooting.
As this will probably start a hot debate and/or political rant I'll leave everyone with a quote from a favorite TV character of mine.
In the immortal words of Sledge Hammer, "Guns don't kill people, I do."
Meditate on that.

What really irks me is the fact that 40 murders happen per day in America. In 2011 14,612 people were murdered. Where was our outrage when these fine folks lost there lives? Where was the call for new laws? Every murder is a tragedy not just the especially massive ones. Fact of the matter is there are evil people out there that are going to kill people. If they don't have a gun, they use a knife.
http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/knifecrime" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; There's a whole section in UK papers about "knifecrime". How am I going to chop my onions an fillet my fish with a clean conscious, knowing that Cutco and Buck are getting rich off the blood of UK citizens everywhere? How can I cut and split my firewood without taking part in the gross negligence for profit of chainsaw and ace manufacturers everywhere? It was Colonel Mustard in the library with the candlestick! Let's ban books and blame Bed Bath and Beyond!
It's okay! When you're in trouble, the average police response time to an emergency 911 call is only ten minutes. Criminals can't do much harm in ten minutes.
The only thing standing between you and the bad guy is your deadbolt and flimsy door frame. And your Milguard windows, because nothing can break THAT glass.
There were 14,612 murders in 2011. That means there were around 14,612 murderers walking around. That's just murders. Not rapes, assaults and property crimes. The police won't get there for ten minutes. A whole lot of raping goes on in those ten minutes. The only person who can protect you is you, everyone else just cleans up the mess.

I'm sure that most folks here will agree that it's not the average .22 shell buying public that is out there taking part in these mass shotings, and they're not doing it with .22's. I like the health reform comment made earlier in this thread. The percentage of the gun owning and shooting punlic that turn in to mass murders is miniscule. As was also mentioned, if someone wants to take a life they certainly don't need a gun to do it. I would say spend a little more of that government money pinpointing wackos instead of trying to elliminate guns in the hands of the American public.
My 2 cents worth.

Im always picking up 22 lr bullets. I love shooting my 22 rifles. What a fun gun to shoot. I have two Remmington rifles. One is a pump with a 15-25 shell capacity. The difference is if Im using shorts or longs. The other is a newer Semi auto 22. They are great Plinking rifles. So yes ,when I see 22 for sale I buy a few boxes.

There is no shortage of 30/06, what exactly are you looking for? Sportco in fife has had ample supply.
Not exactly a target shooting round so there is still plenty on the shelves.

30/06 is one of the few rounds that I see where I have looked on the shelf. Otherwise except for shotgun shells most shelves are empty

If youre just looking for some plinking fun and enjoy a 22 like myself then look into some CB Shorts or Longs. They are 22's with less gunpowder loads. For me they are great cuz I shoot rats in my backyard. With less grain they wont ricochet much at all. I use them in Ea. wa all the time.
