Not sure there are many Dungeness that far south. Best bet might be Mukeltio (?) and North

go to Reports, drop down select Salt water reports, select Area 13 reports and filter for crab. I know I put a report a few years ago for Nisqually delta. We tried it one time came home with two dungies and some rock. I did not like the tides down there so I have not gone back.

Definitely North Sound in MA 8-2 out of Everett, Mukiteo (horrible boat launch) or Kayak Point. The latter is where we go.

Crab are the same as everything else we "catch" in the Sound. The chances of catching some get worse and worse the further south you go. MA13 sucks big time. 11 and 12 just suck. 9 and on it starts to get better but its still not great anywhere unless you're willing to go to the coast or the straight.

We did really well in the mouth of Wollochet bay two to three years ago. Last year it was just so-so with very few limits. This year is was bad with just a very few keeper Dundies and not that many good rock crab. Good luck with the hunt.

Most areas of Puget Sound reopen
Oct. 1 for late-season crab fishing

OLYMPIA – Most marine areas of Puget Sound will reopen for recreational crab fishing Oct. 1, the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) announced today.

The openings were approved by fishery managers after summer catch assessments by WDFW indicated more crab are available for harvest, said Rich Childers, shellfish manager for the department.

Waters reopening to sport crabbing Oct. 1 at 8 a.m. include marine areas 4 (Neah Bay, east of the Tatoosh-Bonilla line), 5 (Sekiu), 6 (eastern Strait of Juan de Fuca), 7 (San Juan Islands), 8-1 (Deception Pass, Hope Island, and Skagit Bay), 8-2 (Port Susan and Port Gardner), 9 (Admiralty Inlet), 11 (Tacoma-Vashon Island), 12 (Hood Canal), and 13 (South Puget Sound).

In each area, crabbing will be allowed seven days a week through Dec. 31.

Sport crabbing will not reopen at this time in Marine Area 10 (Seattle/Bremerton).

The daily catch limit in Puget Sound is five Dungeness crab, males only, in hard-shell condition with a minimum carapace width of 6¼ inches. In addition, fishers may catch six red rock crab of either sex per day, provided those crab measure at least 5 inches across. Additional information is available on WDFW’s website at http://wdfw.wa.gov/fishing/shellfish/crab/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;.

All Dungeness crab caught in the late-season fishery must be recorded on winter catch cards, which are valid through Dec. 31. Winter cards – free to those with crab endorsements – are available at license vendors across the state.

Winter catch reports are due to WDFW by Feb. 1, 2016. For more information on catch record cards, visit WDFW’s website at http://wdfw.wa.gov/fishing/shellfish/crab/crc.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;.

South coast of Washington reopens to crab fishing

OLYMPIA – The recreational Dungeness crab fishery along the southern Washington coast will reopen effective immediately, state shellfish managers announced today.

With this action, the entire Washington coast is open for sport crabbing after elevated levels of domoic acid forced the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) to close the crab fisheries this summer.

WDFW opened the northern coast in late August, when toxin levels there dropped to safe levels. Marine toxin levels have continued to decline on the southern coast over the last month, said Dan Ayres, WDFW coastal shellfish manager. Recent tests by the Washington Department of Health (DOH) show crabs on the southern coast – from Point Chehalis south to the Columbia River – are also safe to eat.

Domoic acid, a natural toxin produced by certain types of marine algae, can be harmful or even fatal if consumed in sufficient quantities. Cooking or freezing does not destroy domoic acid in shellfish.

As usual, the use of crab pots is prohibited on the coast through Nov. 30, except in the Columbia River estuary, where pots are allowed year-round, Ayres said. Elsewhere along the coast, crabbers can use other gear, such as ring nets.

DOH will continue to test shellfish in all coastal marine waters. Harvesters should check for closures on DOH's shellfish safety webpage at https://fortress.wa.gov/doh/eh/maps/bio ... toxin.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;.

More information about domoic acid can be found on WDFW's webpage at http://wdfw.wa.gov/fishing/shellfish/ra ... _acid.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;.
