Heading to the hood canal in a couple weeks, place called "Mikes Resort". Went there several years ago and got some oysters. Any secrets on the clams? Also going to bring a little row boat to do some crabbing, any good for crab in the area?

Any help would be appreciated.

Kzoo, any reports i have been reading as well as info from friends crabbing in the hood canal area are saying its hot right now. Don't know exactly where the resort you're staying at is but went out last week and did well near potlatch area. Hope this helps.

Well, that's encouraging, the place is located LILLIWAUP. Should be fun, being from the midwest, my saltwater experience is very minimal.

Lilliwaup? Don't know what the tides will be but Twanoh state park area has good oyster populations if tide is low enough to harvest. And it says they have manilas and some other stuff too. Here's a good place to look for spots aorund Lilliwaup:

Thanks for the intel guys.

I went there several years ago, the place was loaded with oysters. There was hardly any clams.

I don't think the fishing is open in that section of the hood canal, it's north of that point which opens later on the year.

I've been out there the past couple weekends. 8 keepers in 2 trips. Had to throw back quite a few undersized. I hope to be there this weekend and get some Pinks. Good luck.

Check the Red Tide Hotline for Hoods Canal. The past few years in the warmth of summer The Hoods Canal area get a very low oxygen rate in the water which in turn makes going for shellfish dangerous.

Good point Racfish, I'll be sure to follow up the toxic warnings there, so far they said to fully cook all shell fish.

Yeah I was wondering about the pinks, we'll be there in a couple weeks. I don't have downriggers on my row boat, I was wondering I could use buzz bombs or deep sixs.

Skokomish is close by, I could try to sneak out and try my luck there, anyone know where to go?

If you can make it to the front of the Hatchery, you will be fine. Go with the 2inch buzz bomb, for some reason we only found the pinks to hit that size.

Thank you Gringo. I get the paper delivered daily. I wouldnt be able to even find it online. The closure was written up in Thurs morn Times and the sick folks were in todays. Hood Canal in hot summer months has had its problems with very low oxygenation in the canal.

Still don't see anything that says hood canal, but it's probably not worth the risk.
