Italian Christmas Panatones

Post by racfish » Tue Dec 11, 2012 2:39 pm

Panatones or sweet bread. The Italians got it all figured out. A panatone is a sweet almost cake like bread. Sometimes with dried fruit or sometimes a chocolate or lemon filling. I prefer the plain sweet bread. It makes the best french toast. I slice the bread in rounds. Make an eggwash with a lil milk in it with some cinamon. Drench the bread and either fry it in butter or bake it in a buttered pan. You can leave it whole or make a bread pudding from it. Trust me on this one. Go to a good Italian bakery like Borrachinis or even Pacific Foods (PFI) Want a great Christmas breakfast then a Panatone french toast is great. Enjoy.
