Did i get the right battery charger?? - Please help

Post by fisherdane » Sat Jun 16, 2007 1:37 pm

Just bought an old Schumacher 10 amp Twin rate (12V, 6V) Automatic/Manual battery charger (SE-40MA). I now think I might have bought a wrong charger. The reason is that it only has 3 settings:

1) Manual
2) Conventional & Low Maintenance Automatic
3) Maintenance free & Deep Cycle automatic

I am planning to use this charger for a Marine Battery for my Minn Kota Endura #55

I have read several places now that I need to recharge my battery using a trickle setting. I do not see that setting on this model??? maybe 2)? Please help

Thanks

Deep Cycle Automatic, You said it yourself. It's pretty hard to go wrong with any of the new smart chargers. Oh, you got one.

fisherdane - Your new "old" charger is automatic except when you select manual, then it will charge at the reated output of the charger until you shut it off. I do not recommend that setting for charging. I have a similar model and it works just fine.

Here's a link to the owner's manual off the Schumacher website: http://manuals.batterychargers.com/manu ... 000161.pdf

Enjoy!

I use a Exide Nautilus Gold 12volt/10 AMP charger and set it at the Deep Cycle trolling/Maintenance Free to charge my Deep cycle trolling motor battery and the battery that starts/or runs my 40 HP motor, fishfinder, lights, bilge pump and temp gauge.
Just set on Maintenance free & Deep Cycle automatic and it will do just fine.
