So I was out on lake Samamish on Friday launched the boat, let her warm up waiting for my fishing buddy to park the rig ease her past the bouys temp hits 160 and and we're off. Half way up the lake did you get the launch fees mate "NO' turn around and head back. Pay the fee turn around step on the gas she climb to 4200 and cuts out! Try it again and she dies again. Im like bloody hell must have sucked up some debris/weeds or up something. Dropped the kicker motor and trolled and had a great time.
After the day of fishing was done, fired up the engine and planned on slowly going back in, immediately oil pressure light came on and she died...i openned the engine hatch didnt see nothing, i tried it again and she died again, one more try and yep died again. Openned the hatch again and holy cow batman hull was full of oil....
Got her home drained all the oil, and couldnt find a single leak from any seals around the engine, oil pan plug is a hose for easy changes all clean as a whistle...Now the only area i could find oil was on the lip of the oil filters, where it contiuned to run down the side.
My question is can you loose that much oil from the seals of a oil fliter that fast?

Yup, it's under pressure.

well ill put the new filters in and new oil and will let you guys know how it goes?

Make sure the old gasket/o-ring isn't stuck to the place where the oil filter attaches to. Sometimes the gasket will stick and come off the filter. Assuming it is a spin on filter onto the side of the block, or an adapter to the engine. It'll leak if the gasket is stuck on the block, and so there will be 2 gaskets there, double check. Usually only happens when an oil change is done and filter changed, and first startup afterwards, or a couple startups later, but can start leaking anytime. Beings I have no idea what engine you have, this is just a guess.

yeah I do and already removed one seal that didnt come off when i removed the filters. Its so bizarre how this has happend. The engine i have is a marine power 350 5.7L duel oil fliters.

How was the fishing?

fishing was good. All fish caught were at 30 feet thats where we marked them, caught 3 beautiful sea run cutts and i didnt have the heart to knock them on the head. Im getting old...ha ...anyways we prob had about 12 fish to the boat none were over 16inches so we released them all. only one koke. But that is expected when you troll over 2mph....

gosh yeah...Will fire her up at the launch and see what happens, at least i should be able to see any leaks.

Most oil systems apply 100% of the oil pressure and flow to the filter after the pump so Im not surprised that you could pump out all of your oil through the filter gasket. Could be an issue with your oil pump building to much pressure but hopefully not. Keep an eye on it, good luck

Im gutted with the snow as ive still not got the oil and new filtters in the tub. Plan on doing it as soon as i can. I still have not found any leak stains or marks around the engine so i am really hoping something funky happened with the oil filters and it is a one off nightmare.

No kidding, hope she runs like a champ after the snow melts.

Went to the Kirkland launch and there was a huge dump of snow...so over to Kenmore dunked her in and fired her up. No leaks whatsoever! Im am relieved to say the least ran for almost 20mins and up to temperture. Plan on hitting lake samamish to give her a work out. Still mistyfied how or why it happened evn though it pointed to a oil filter.

Great to hear! It coulda leaked by any of the reasons you've already thought about. I'm guessing that you'll occasionally give those filters a "look see" hand twist from time to time.

too tight or too loose will cause them to leak. lube the seal first then hand tight when you put them on.

That is the right way and that's is how I put them on.
