my buddy is getting his boat set up for fishin. hes getting ready to mount a kicker.... it needs to mount on a large flat swimstep (see pic) all glass.... hears the catch, he dont want to drill any holes. he has some idea of having a "giant C-clamp" set up... swears it will work any ideas?

My guess is your buddy really likes to buy kickers..... But, he could probably get away with it if he made a big L shaped bracket to clamp to the swim step. The way the bracket is in the picture sure looks like a recipe for a chewed up swim step. That bracket was designed to be mounted to the transom, not sitting on a swim step. It needs a bracket to move it to the edge of the swim step.

thanks bodo. the bracket is just sitting there in the pic... he has tried to explain his idea several times but im very skeptical. alot of thrust for a huge clamp set up... any one find a link to somthing that would work without drilling? im bringing him and his boat in the fishing world but he just dont want to put holes....

Take the swim step off and make an appropiate bracket/adaptor using those holes. Don't forget a hefty plate on the inside of the hull for strength.

if you look at the pic close, i know its small, the swim step and the boat haul is all one piece... you cant take it offits all molded

Well a couple things;

1 make the picture right side up, my neck doesn't like leaning off to one side, unless it's a woman. Yes I can enlarge the picture a little.

2 I guess that whole 'area' that the bracket is sitting on is the 'swim step'

3 I am thinking take off the steps/ladder and make it work.

4 tell him to man up and drill some holes. If he doesn't like the bracket/mounting/fishing later on, the holes can be fixed. They won't hurt the boat. We drill hole all the time.

:-)

The jetboat MFG's have kicker mounts that bolt right to the swim step. At this point I'm afraid all I can see are some big bolts to hold anything on. Small engines create quite a bit of torque and other forces. Back to the mount, If a suitable bracket were constructed to attach that kicker bracket to, I see no problem. That bracket goes up and down, not in and out. It needs to be on the edge of the swim step or pretty close.
