I'm thinking about buying Fishin' Buddy 120, anyone using one with pontoon?

For the wiring extensions I would just do the wiring yourself and save money and buying any prefabbed "Humminbird" extensions. Just match the gauge of wire they used and buy a 10 ft section from the hardware store, dirt cheap! Use splices and tape to make the connections and, voila, extendo transducer. I think putting the head unit up front and the transducer in the rear is a good plan.

If the head unit separates from the transducer you are more than likely going to need a coaxial cable between the two. Add to this that it would most certainly be a micro coax cable and connector, and you'll be hard pressed to find the parts you'll need. I'd be more inclined to throw a few loops of rope around a pontoon and secure it in that manner until you can replace it with your custom ordered strap.

I'm not familiar with the fishingbuddy, but I've read enough to know that transducer cables are typically not simply cut and spliced like power cabels. Not to say Matt is wrong and there are people who have successfully spliced transducer cable, but I think you're asking for trouble on that one. Better to buy a prefabbed cable. I know that the Outdoor Emporium by Safeco carries some of those items. JM2C

I put the holster type mount on the pontoon float. a couple of problems such as launching the fish finder will drag so you have to keep it out of the holster until you are deep enough. The holster does not hold the finder very securely and it moves around if you are rowing and fishing. I found I had to secure it with a separate cinch strap to keep is still to get good sonar readings and to keep from spinning around so I could not visualize the screen.
