Diawa J-braid?
Diawa J-braid?
Anyone used this stuff? I have been using PowerPro for the last few years and need some more 8#/10# for my lite setup.
Sportco has it on sale for a very good price. Probably a Show Special.

It's got to be better than Power Pro. If it's a good price, give it a try.

Re: Diawa J-braid?
I've tried Power Pro twice and both times it shed all over everything, the coating they put on it just let go after a couple weeks.

I have tried J-braid twice and been disappointed both times, I'll stick to Spiderwire stealth braid, It's never let me down and I can buy it in the 1500YD spools for under 100.00 in 6, 8, 10 & 15 lb test.

Can you be more specific about what you didnt like? Poor casting? Breaks too easy? Tangles? Or?E-10 wrote:I have tried J-braid twice and been disappointed both times, I'll stick to Spiderwire stealth braid, It's never let me down and I can buy it in the 1500YD spools for under 100.00 in 6, 8, 10 & 15 lb test.

Re: Diawa J-braid?
There are two Diawa j-braids, x4 (4 braid), and x8 (8 braid). x4 is similar to the other 4 braids, smaller in diameter, rougher feel, stiffer, and more abrasion resistance than the 8 braids. All the brands I have used are similar but I prefer the 4 braids for small diameter/strength and less knot slippage with palomar knot. Note the price of the j-braids is less than most others, both made in Japan, come in yellow for line watching and an odd thing is that x4 comes in 150/300 yards and x8 165/330 yards. One tensile test I found showed new x8 10 lb broke at 24 lbs.
Re: Diawa J-braid?
I was talking with the Diawa rep at the sportsman show and he explained which one they recommend (4 or 8) for a spinning reel and which one for bait caster reel - but now I have forgotten which was which.....
Re: Diawa J-braid?
Most recommend 4 carrier for bait casting and 8 carrier for spinning, however, I use only spinning and 4 braid for thinner diameter, better abrasion resistance, stronger per diameter, and no knot slippage.
