This is really starting to cheese me off!

Post by reelman » Thu Feb 24, 2011 7:01 pm

Remember how excited you would get as a kid while waiting for your birthday? It seemed like it would take forever. But, your birthday never "moved". You were guaranteed that each new day would bring you closer to your birthday until you were ultimately eating cake and ice cream and opening presents.
I finally got the boat that I've been wanting for years. Through luck and miracles, I got one that I could afford. I was honest and good (see posting: "kayak in the wind"). However, in some cruel twist, we in the Spokane area are suffering from the coldest weather we've had all year. I'm watching the maiden voyage of my new boat slip deeper and deeper into the calendar. The ice on our lakes grows thicker. Just looking outside nearly gives me frost bite. I have a 4' drift behind my fishing rig. Some days, life is so cruel.

As a side note, I think I've chosen a name for my boat: Karma. I thought it was fitting. Let me know what you think.

That would be the saddest thing to have it freeze and shatter while sledding before I catch a single fish with it. As fun as it sounds, I'm not going to risk it.

If you'd raher I know some sled dog people over there. They'll have their dogs pull you down the snow covered road, or around the grassy golf course on the flat. :-" :) Image

You got a point Reelman, at -9º with a wind chill near -20º, that could shatter like a light bulb.....better not.[glare]

I'm right next to you Reelman, and I thought the snow/ice was gone! In my dreams now.. It has to go sooner or later, but as you said it'll be later. Newman was getting fairly close to ice out and I got TOO excited about it. Oh well back to shoveling the pickup out.

I could use my fly rod and line for a mushing whip. They aren't going to get any other use for a while time anyway.

Most folks hate this cold freezing weather, but its really a blessing in disguise. We were having nice 45-55 degree weather for a spell. Im allready in my yard w/ lime turning over the soil doing my horse compost and so on. I was noticing gnats and slugs appearing all around down where I live near the lake. This freeze should kill off some of these garden pests. So for me I like it. Im sorry bout your boating adventure though. When it happens I hope you get fish blood all over it,to Christin it..Unfortunately Im still praying for this cold snap to hang around just a few more days on the Westside.Good luck to everyone. Drive safely and keep your head and toes warm....

Reelman keep in mind Liberty opens on tuesday March 1 and I can tell you from previous years that the browns are typicaly easy on opening day throwing rapalas. If I had not just gotten a new job I would be there bright and early tuesday morning tossing rapalas and having a grand old time. I stopped by the lake Friday afternoon to check just how thick the ice is and to my surprise the lake is 95% ice free. The gate down to the boat ramp is still locked so I imagine the snow in the parking area and on the ramp is probably still bad so if you go be very careful, and have a great time and I get off about 230 pm and am going to try to fish from the ramp for a while so if you see a black ford ranger stop over and say Hi....Dennis

95% ice free?! I hope it's still that way now, I'll be there first thing that morning!

SWEEEEET! I'll be the one on his new Nucanoe (see pictured above). I don't own a Rapala, but a med sink line and some bugger and minnow patterns....
I might go to my friend's house that lives right on the lake and launch from there this Monday just to try out the boat.
Tuesday and Wednesday are supposed to be almost pleasant.
I'll get to try out the new fish finder too.
I need a minute. No, I'm not crying tears of joy, something is in my eye. Give me another minute....

Hope to see you all there.

Not really raining on my parade, more like blizzarding.
The wind concerns me, but I can deal with the snow.

When we going fishing Marc?

Well, I had been hoping for a warmer March opener, but that doesn't appear to be in the cards. Old Man Winter has to have a couple more sniffy fits before he heads north for the summer.[mad] I'd like to try and get out in the next 3 weeks if possible. I've got my license and my gear is about all ready. It will come around, it just may take a few weeks.

Remember, if you do go out soon, your survival time in these water temperatures is about 5-15 minutes in the water. So, be careful.[wink]

Well the survival time the last few days has been 15 minutes just for being out in the open air. Won't be catching ME in the water. Haven't even been outside in a week. :-$

It's snowing right now at 40 degrees, nice soft flakes, and about 3/4" to 1" on the porch.

If you fall in without a PFD on, your survival time is about 2 minutes. There is a man that used to kayak in Lake WA that would tell you that if he was alive. Oh and don't tell yourself you "just won't fall in", or that you could climb back in if you do. Be realistic about it - it could mean your life.

I have a brand new Jackson Coosa, specifically designed for river fishing, and haven't been able to use it yet because of the wind and cold (mostly the wind). Grrrrr.
