Lake Sammamish Catfish?

Hey Guys,

I can only assume that Lake Sammamish has catfish (im not talking about carp...I had a huge one hit my boat last year while fishing in the shallows north end!). Can anyone confirm this? I thought about fishing for them recently just for a change of pace. If there are some in there, lemme know how you catch em! I was thinking about heading over to the slough on the north end (keeping my distance as I am supposed to), but just be in that area and try a few things off the bottom (liver, some catfish bait I bought, etc). This has been mainly to my lack luster bass fishing as of late...I think I need more practice.

Anyway, thanks for reading and have a great time!

The way i have caught cats before (not in washington) is with chicken liver, leeches, nightcrawlers or their favorite, anything that you cannot stand the smell of. My dad had a pack of hotdogs that he left on the hood of his truck for a day in the hot summer sun and then fished for them that night. He froze them in between fishing trips so my mom would let him bring them in and out of the house. We always caught them at night or in the early morning and late evening. I have also seen guys poke a bunch of holes in a can of cat food and drop it in the water to attract the fish to their area (i dont know if this is legal here and have not done it). Hope this helps.

I caught a brown bullhead cat last week at Lake Sammamish. They are in there... I caught mine using a live worm while trying to find smallies. I agree with rosskie, find the stinkiest stuff that will stay on your hook if you are targeting mr. whiskers! Livers are great because the blood leaves a trail that allows them to home in on your bait.

Pretty sure that it has brown bullheads, not the big channel cats that you'll find on the eastside or in the several lakes that have been planted. Bullheads are tasty too, but they're not really the exciting cats like are in Swofford pond. I used to catch them on nightcrawlers at night.

Both Lk wa and Sammamish have brown bullhead cats. I think they are the best tasting catfish. On Samamish we caught them near the opening of the slough down by the Village Marina.
