Rufus Woods Question

I'm planning on making my first trip to Rufus Woods this next Sunday 11/09/08; actually it's my second trip. My first trip was last weekend to scope out the boat launch and do a little bank fishing, this next trip I'll be putting the new Lund into the water for its maiden voyage to see what we can do.
My question, I am not familiar with the river above Chief Joe and was wondering about any dangers, rocks, logs or underwater structure that might be looking to put the first ding in the Lund as I'm heading up river. Actually, I don't want to try to explain to the wife why I need cash for repairs on the Lund. It was hard enough to slide the several new poles and reels by her and I don't think she's buying the story about the two new fully loaded tackle boxes coming with the boat as a package deal. Any help or advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

There were some mid-channel shallow spots but they were clearly marked. I "think" it's pretty tame water, but I was concentrating on catching fsh.

if you launch by the chief Joe the water is several hundred feet deep and it stays deep all the way to Coulee. I launch at the Spirit Ridge Road by Elmer. The launch has a good deep channel out to the main river watch out for sharp rocks near shore. Just stay in the middle in the main current and you'll be fine. Hope you have a good motor on that lund, when they generate a lot of water comes down. No white water just a lot of water and it's moving fast.

Big thanks to both Mike Carey & Bodofish. That's the kind of answers I was hoping to hear.
The Lund has a Yamaha 115hp four stroke and Yamaha 8hp four stroke kicker. I tried to talk the wife into the 150hp Yamaha when we were shopping but at that time gas was over $4.00 a gallon so she won that one.
Thanks again!!!

I doubt you'll get up this far if you launch at Chief Joe, but if you do go all the way up to the Nespelem bar - about 100 yards or so downstream of the last pen the bar starts to come up, and towards the head of it you'll find water as shallow as 2-3 feet on low-flow days. Right in the middle of the river, no markings at all... Just an FYI-

Also, a few miles above that is buckley bar, and I would strongly suggest you stay on the left against the huge cut bank as you head upstream. There is a long, shallow reef that comes off of the island and gets a few props every year...

That's a good call caskillet. If it's the same place I'm thinking of that would want to be left going upstream and the right going down of the osprey (?) nest box. You can't miss it, it's the pole out in the middle! I never worried too much about it and have scared the stuff'in out of a number of folks by shooting across there at low water in my sled. Jet boats rock. 8-[ o:)

Hello,
Anyone that has Rufus Woods fly trolling info.
I follow the posts about Rufus Woods very closely. When and if you have the time, could you please post a discription of how you troll the surface and what you use while doing so. I see people talking about trolling flies all the time and I would really like to learn how it's done. A couple of photos of the fly setup would be even better.
Thanks all & good luck on the water.
