So in my native British Columbia they have started stocking many inaccessible lakes from helicopters while hovering around 10 feet above the surface. Apparently a total of around 120,000 rainbow trout are being released into 40 lakes this way.

I believe that all of the western mountain states have been doing that for many years. Many of the alpine lakes in the west don't have roads to them, just trails.

Yep, just like marc said. I first heard of them dumping stockers into alpine lakes (5-6000ft) with helicopters in Oregan in 2000. I'm sure It's been done before that...
I have also heard of some stories where the fry are actually packed in on an individuals back, then released. Not sure of that though.

It sure beats packing them in on horse back or man power sing milk cans.
