I'm not sure if this is the place to post this but anyways I'm going to Michigan for a week and I'll probably wet a line wherever I can. possibly the st. marys river. I will most likely try for perch or northern pike. I don't know much about pike and I was wondering were I should start? maybe around the weed lines or around boulders ext?

Northern pike love weed lines and are masters at ambushing their prey. Throw weedless spoons in silver or gold and throw big wooden plugs with hard wobbling action like an oversized Kwikfish in metallic colors. Pike can't resist that stuff.

I would have never thought of using Kwikfish thanks for the advice.

I see time is a factor here..I'll try to give some quick tips.

River pike eh,....lets see
I would start targeting sloughs or anywhere the current slows.Pike don't care for the fast currents.
Weedbeds are always great but don't spend to much time there if no action, but don't move to far either.A single cast length should do..make a few casts then move on. Also keep an eye out for eddies, pike will snag some baitfish here and then bolt back to calmer water.

I'd take a few crankbaits, bucktails and some spinnerbaits.I'm not familiar with this river....but they should work.
If you intend on keeping some pike. You can use deadbait such as smelt, cisco and suckers. Trust me...the pike will sniff it out and find it.But if you are C&Ring,I wouldn't suggest this. Its to common to kill the fish.
Hope this helps,I wish I would of seen this thread earlier.
Good luck and let us know how your trip went.

yep. if you decide not to bring your tackle, you'll most likely find #4 or #5 mepps and 5-7in rapala's for sale. Bright colors for stained waters. I would use those in MI.....(large live bait can be killer under a large bobber, but i don't know the regs in MI)

St. Marys river doesn't ring a bell for me, is this in the UP?

I suggest samething, spinners. You can also run into some trout.

I'm originally from Michigan, lived there all my life up until 3 years ago. big fish lite line, if you check the forums while you are there let me know what part of the state you are in and I will try to offer some spots.
