What is the best Fish Attractant you have used?
I'm looking into purchasing some fish attractant, garlic scent in particular. I wanted to get some opinions of others on products before purchasing.
On a scale from 1-5 rate the best Garlic attractant you have used to date? I want to use it for Bass, Perch, etc..Possible add a couple of pros/cons?I don't want a cheap bottle of stuff (get what you pay for, true in some cases) but something in the mid range price that has a good ratio of success.
I used a particular type when I went fishing in Oregon a month or so ago, but can't quite remember the name of product (maybe Kelly's, Arron's or something along those lines) in a clear bottle, green in color. That probably is not a good description but o well, I tried researching it but no luck. Any input would be helpful!

I would like to know why you picked garlic?
Look for Wannafish A Lure on FaceBook
He said, “Throw your net on the right side of the boat and you will find some.” When they did, they were unable to haul the net in because of the large number of fish.

1. Well, Garlic gives off a strong scentToni wrote:I would like to know why you picked garlic?
2. My buddy said hey try this..and I believe it worked. I didnt have a bite for for awhile and then boom catfish on.
3. Garlic is the most popular scent I see been used on the bass fishing shows if a scent is being used.
Do you have a better reccomendation?

Its not a typical attractant, but popping a hole in a can of dog food and chucking it out where you are casting can produce for catfish.

zbo, I am pretty sure that is chumming, and not sure if that is legal everywhere.
I would not use garlic. I have used it in washington, and besides stinking up your boat and gear, it doesn't do much good. There are some baitfish scents outthere for Bass that I have had great success on (Bass Assasin BANG, sold at BassPro), one comes in a windex type spray bottle, and one comes in a spray can, they both don't stink as bad as garlic, but work better. Garlic seems like a waste of money.

If you are into attractants, try a tube of Preparation-H.
Its made with Shark oil and works pretty darn good.
The down side to all attractants is they can be messy.

Yup!
Smelly Jelly - BassFeast
For trout and panfish I use Pro-Cure - Garlic or Anise
For catfish just use chicken liver or some stank bait made for catching catfish.

Thanks for all the feed back. The only reason I'm gathering info on scents is because I have been in a slump lately for the bass in LK WA. And, they are some nice bass (smallies/lg mths) in LK WA.. Again, thanks

RE:What is the best Fish Attractant you have used?
I bought a bottle of "bass pheromones" from Walmart about a year ago. Bright yellow, has glitter-flake in it, smells like anise and horny fish. Seems to work pretty well. It's thick and sludgy, about like Smelly Jelly but a thin enough to squirt through the pump. I usually squirt it into the clear plastic cap, and then dip the lure into the cap. If not, I end up getting it on my leg and keep having to kick the bass away from me.

For trout: shrimp, garlic and crawfish are my favorites. I always squirt some on my PowerEggs when stillfishing for trout.
For steelhead: shrimp oil.
For salmon: herring oil or shrimp oil.
Uncle Mike's Gel Scents are my favorites.

Have any of you guys heard the rumor that WD40 is suppose to be a killer fish attractant? My dad told me this rumor, and if you do a google search for "wd 40 fish attractant" you will pull up tons of discussions on the topic. Has anybody ever tried using WD40?

My dad used to use it for catch and release when we were kids. He said it wasn't good to eat fish caught on it. Plus it is bad for the fish and the water. I've never used it but he always had luck with it.beerman1981 wrote: Has anybody ever tried using WD40?

Yes, some folks like it, but it might be illegal to use.beerman1981 wrote:Have any of you guys heard the rumor that WD40 is suppose to be a killer fish attractant? Very popular among sturgeon fishermen, some salmon in the saltwater, but most are turning to the jelly form of Smelly Jelly. That stuff stays on forever....
