Burbot?

Post by bigastrout » Wed May 16, 2007 12:47 am

I am looking for proven tackle set ups and techniques for Burbot. Is there anyone who has actually caught one?

Iv never caught one but from what I understand youtake a worm or hearing down tho the bottom. Ive also heard of using jigs as well but yo have to get down really deep. Another thing is they just changed the rules on these fish now your not allowed to use a set line. On the old web page I remember reading an article written by Mike Carey there are pictures and a lot of tips. I dont know if the article is still around or not. Im sure he would answer every Q you threw his way

Ive caught a few burbot with a good old worm and marshmellow off the bottom but all at night. So i think they feed more activly at night. Im sure there are other baits but i think a worm and marshmellow will catch any thing good luck. P.S. I was fishing at Rufus

I caught them in Chelan years ago by setting a line to a buoy overnight and picking it up in the morning. You gotta get DEEP

I've caught them on Lake Roosevelt in early spring, on a jig and nightcrawler while jigging for walleyes. Usually in a depth of around 40'. Fun fish to catch and also eat. =p~
