Lake Stevens

Post by Palmer » Sun Mar 16, 2008 10:49 pm

I should have gone to Lake Washington today but was curious over what Stevens had to offer. I saw alot of signals but nothing as big as Lake Washington or other medium sized lakes. I don't think Stevens has as much feed as Sammamish and Washington either. Does anyone know much about Stevens?

Yes they were scheduled to plant over 200,000 kokanee fry last year.

They were scheduled to plant over 70,000 rainbow fry and 16,000 cutthroat fry so I can see why the fish eating birds were all over the lake.

I've witnessed seven plus pound trips coming out of there. There are HUGE smallies in there and very good sized perch also. It has a ton of fish, it's just being able to find them that takes time as it is a pretty good sized lake. The kokes are great in there and the cutts used to be some of the best around, but have definitely not been as good as they were fifteen plus years ago. I love the lake, but I also grew up in Lake Stevens and lived for quite a few years being able to see it from my living room window so I'm kinda biased. It's a worthy lake to fish, but it's a lake that is not mastered without some work....just watch out for that wind if you're in a smaller boat. I've been in close to three foot "seas" out there in my twelve footer that kicked up in a matter of minutes.....yeeeeeeee HAW!

Stevens has LOTS of fish, but it gets relatively little fishing pressure. This is probably because of two things: 1) During the summer months it is a mecca for jet skis and ski boats, which can be very frustrating for anglers. 2) It is a large lake with LOTS of dead water. It is very easy to fish all day and not catch squat. You've got to put in the time to figure out where the fish will be under varying conditions.

I heard that trolling a wooly bugers in deeper water works good on bows when the water is cold.

But my cousin is from that area and he said that he will never eat anything out of that lake. But I think any lake with some sort of developed shore line will have a little bit of polution.
