Bow and Arrow Common Carp Fishing

Post by anakpinoy4 » Wed May 13, 2009 9:25 am

Has anyone ever done bow and arrow carp fishing? I was just watching Campbell Outdoor Challenge this morning and it was about bow fishing for carp. I know common common carp are an invasive species and a nuisance in Green Lake (Seattle), but I wonder how people around the lake would feel about someone walking around the lake with a bow and arrow... :-s
Never been interested in them, but has anyone ever eaten them? I saw in the 2009 WDFW Regulations book that they are listed as a food fish.

Killem all, not the peolpe around Green but the carp. I think it would do some good for those 206's to see some theraputic killing. I have a bunch of buddies that do it on the dry side of the state and people actually thank them for it. We have a different way of thinking over here. The normal way!

=d> That video was awesome! Now that looked like fun.

I used to shoot them on the Yakima in West Richland when I was a kid. They'd congregate in the shallows and sloughs and you could just wade around and pop them. I never used a fancy fishing arrow setup because I never fished in water deeper than my waist, so never worried about losing the fish or the arrow. Good times. I don't think I'd try it over here (at least anywhere a lot people are about) West Staters seem to be a little edgy around people with guns and archery equipment.

Silver carp have become notorious for being easily frightened by boats and personal watercraft, which causes them to leap high into the air. The fish can jump 8–10 feet (2.5–3 m) into the air, and numerous boaters have been injured by collisions with the fish. According to the EPA, "reported injuries include cuts from fins, black eyes, broken bones, back injuries, and concussions. Silver carp can grow to 40 pounds (18 kg) in mass. This behavior has sometimes also been attributed to the very similar bighead carp, but this is apocryphal information. Bighead carp do not normally jump when frightened.

I couldnt imagine, well maybe, nail the throttle while heading to a honey hole and pass over a large school of these at 60+ and get nailed by a few 2+ pound fish.

I can see it now: 200lb guy killed by 2lb carp, news at 11. or end up with a permanant carp shaped tatoo on your forehead.

I had that same idea for bowfishing in Greenlake a few summers back and actually went ahead and called around and asked some people in the city. The deal was as far as fish and wildlife in concerned it pretty much all checks out, but you run into the problem shooting the bow in the city park- here, she said if i really cared i might be able to make a case for myself using that little clause at the end but i never followed through

SO.... If a group of us were interested. We need to get documented permission for it and then put up some signs. Probably wouldnt hurt to let the local police know and show them the permission form.

Im in if anyone else wants to get togeather for something like this.

PETA would freeking go nuts though.
