I have never been Kokanee fishing before, but I plan on trying my luck this summer at Lake Merwin. I know Merwin has a good population of them. My only problem is I don't have a boat and therefore do not have the advantage of trolling (seems to be popular method). So my question is, can you cath Kokanee from the shore, and if so what is a good method?

I caught a kokanee casting a daredevil spoon, but I was fishing from a boat....
If I were you I would fish near where they spawn in the fall. Creeks, or rocky lake bed's would be ideal.

For me, every single time its Kastmasters,usually rainbow in color. I use it for shore and trolling. Needlefish also work really well. I have caught Kokes from shore with rooster tails. The hard part is getting into a school of fish. Trolling is nice because you can find the fish. Shoot me your number if you want to go with us sometime this summer. We will go up on a couple weekends.
