Question on sturgeon fishing
A little over a year ago, my husband and I went on a charter boat sturgeon fishing. This weekend we are going to go out on our own in the Columbia river. A friend of my husbands told us to use pickled herring & anchovies and to cure it. Well we got herring, but don't really know what it means to be pickled or what to cure it with. Or if it is even necessary. Any advice would be welcomed!!!
RE:Question on sturgeon fishing
You can buy the herring already pickled and you can buy the cures and brines for them and other baits at Sportsman's or Joe's.
They are kind of pricey so a lot of guys at my work catch crappie, perch and bluegill all summer and freeze them whole and then thaw them out about now and cure/pickle them. Lots cheaper, but a little late for now!

RE:Question on sturgeon fishing
Well my husband went to the store and asked for pickled herring, the guy gave him some packaged herring and said this is what he wanted. The package says no where on it that it is pickled.
