It was pretty bad. Had to bilge out the drift boat in the morning.

Wow....I will be sure to pack some rain gear. Sounds like some much needed rain showed up just in time for opening day. Hope you caught some fish, I see they put just over 11000 fish in the lake so far this year, I hope the rain clears up soon. Good luck.

I hope that it isn't a trend. Buddy of mine got 2 yesterday I just found out. I hope the bite isn't like last year. Because that was dumb.

Gotta remember 75% of those fish were moved in the last week. So only the first 25% of what was moved should be biting. So we're only talking a few thousand. The year looks promising. We had 3x 5lb sockeye in the boat in about 4-5 hours. Also had 3 get off in that time. Was a fun fight. But we did hear most people out there getting skunked or just 1.

Yea, it got cut off on the DR cable. I had a crew of noobs on board, so I had to do everything myself. Running three rods, two stacked on the DR 1 long lined. Had to teach the crew how to run tohe kicker even, they were green. I'm headed out again on Wednesday, hopefully the fish will have acclimated to the lake a little more. I can't believe how warm the water is!

I was one of those guys yakking it on Saturday, there were five of us. We fished for about 8 hours on Saturday with only one of us hooking into and losing two fish. Two of us did land a couple kokes, but that was it. Two of us fished Friday and landed 1 each late in the afternoon. Super tough fishing. Saw a bunch of fish being boated. At one point a boat I had talked to, boated 3 fish in 20 mins, they said that I had circled them a few times during that stretch and to slow down, they were going 0.8 mph. Talked to a bunch that caught after and it seems the consensus is to fish slow (under 1mph) and with small piece of shrimp (we were using whole).

First time fishing from a yak, first time yakking in 3-4 years. I can say I am now addicted and will probably be purchasing one soon. We fished through the monsoon Nate reported about. Launched from Swift Creek around 6:30am. It was super peaceful paddling over to the brigade of synchronized trolling boats, from the distance it didn't look like any of them were moving. Breathing in the fresh air, the mist coming off of the water, watching the fog lift from the mountains, the only sound was the splash of my paddle hitting the water. I was hooked before I even got a line in the water, and I'm hooked now even before landing a fish.

Side note- 1st post under new name, 1st post in about 10 years, but have been trolling for a couple years without posting.

I fished up there on Sunday. One thing I noticed was that everyone I saw boating fish had really short leaders, shorter than what I thought the typical sockeye set up was. It looked like about 8" was the standard that folks we're using. I'm used to 12-18" and started with about 15". After seeing this I shortened to about 10" and hooked 3, didn't land any but at least I knew they were there.

I'm assuming heavy burn bans are in effect? I.e no campfires?

You can have fires in places with metal rings, at least at Shannon Creek campground we could. The complete ban is in state parks and DNR campsites, for the forest service campgrounds fires are allowed only in established pits, was the data my last check.

I don't know anyone with a kayak...I'd like to try it sometime. But I'm really worried about rolling it. I'm 63 and NOT in the best physical condition...athritis, artificial joints, etc. ...so I don't respomd well to bone cilling cold water! Hence the reason I fish from boats.
But kayaking looks lke good excersize and a lot of fun!!!!

Also...I've never fished Baker Lake. Thought about it several times but never done it. Don't know anything about the lake really....
Last time we were therethe water was extremely low and there were stumps everywhere...I would not put my 18'er in there...no way!

New Fishing/Camping Group for Baker, Shannon, KP or the Skag

Post by Bobber_Dogging_Gal » Fri Jul 31, 2015 11:14 am

We're interested in putting together a small fishing and lake camping group to fish and camp at Baker, Shannon, Skagit & Cascade river or Kayak Point salt water park. They have both boat and tent camping, bbq pits, all amenities, a pier, boat launch, lots of coast line and good crabbing. To make things more affordable, car pooling is one idea. North Sound or Skagit. We are chill yet responsible, not into drama, heavy drinking or wired for sound. Does smoke cigs. Dedicated fisher people who enjoy fishing whenever schedules permit. Retired or can go during weekdays a bonus. [thumbup]
