This weekend we really did well on crappie and perch on duck lake. We went under this bridge and caught a crappie on every cast. All the crappie were pretty small except the occasional 8" crappie, not a bad sized crappie but on a 9" min. size crappie lake, 8" doesn't cut it. Well as usual I was using a 1/64 oz yellow and white micro jig, so I decided to do a little experimenting. I bumped it up to a 1/32 jig and had some success on the 9" crappie, we wernt catching a fish on every cast, but about every 2 casts and the smallest one were 8". Then I switched to a white jig with a 1/16 oz chartreuse green jig head, and took off the worm. This worked great, no rebating and a lot of big fish, perch, crappie and bass. The biggest crappie was 11", the biggest perch was 14" and the biggest bass was 16". This was the first pan fish trip of the year for me. I ended up limiting on crappie (10 crappie daily limit on duck lake) catching the biggest perch I have caught in years, and catching my biggest bass of the season. I think that if I would have stayed with my usual crappie set up I wouldn't have had the success I did, so I will definitely try the 1/16 jig head more often. But tell me this doesnt sound backwards, the biggest bass of the weekend (18") was caught on a 1/2 of a worm and a bobber, and the biggest perch of the weekend (15") was caught on a floating rapala!?!

for those of you who are wondering, the GULP! maggots stay on the hook pretty well, smell horrible, and havnt caught me a single fish! If you have success with them lemme know! I have GULP! red wigglers, maggots, and honey worms - not a SINGLE fish caught on any of them.
