Westside crappie near Gig Harbor?????

Post by qxlooper » Sun May 16, 2010 8:04 am

Any place within a reasonable distance to go get crappie, good size blue gills, or perch? If so where and how? new to this crappie thing here. I fished for them with grandpa in Wisconsin and we used live minnows. Not sure what or where here.

Thanks-

Keith

Long Lake supposedly has some crappie. I just went the other week but I think it was still a little cold for how shallow the dock area is there. I need to take the boat out there and try for them. From some reports on here, during the summer before dusk you can catch them from the dock there. There's also perch and bluegill there. Used to catch a bunch of decent sized bluegill there but haven't tried for bluegill there in years. Perch might be bigger this year, seems like the cycle on a lot of lakes are having larger fish this year.

I have tried crescent time and time again for crappie and bluegill. 1 blue gill, good size, but that was it. Where would one fish for these in crescent. Have always had great luck with the trout, but not these other guys!

Long lake, always wanted to fish it, have boat, where does one go?

Ohop, Tanwax, Harts, Dolloff, Trout, Rapjon, and Kapowsin are all hot right now. The males are on beds and the females are just outside the spawning flats on each of these lakes. They will spawn this week so the next two weeks we will see some fast paced action. We nailed them pretty hard on Ohop this weekend. Last week the bite at Dolloff was on on fire with fish averaging around 11". Caught one slab that went 15" and weight 1lb 6ozs from Dolloff. Just fat as can be. The bite there is hit or miss until you the learn the lake. If it were me...I'd hit Kapowsin and Ohop hard for the next two weeks and fill a cooler. Both of those lakes can use some pressure on the crappies.
