Mount Rainier week long trip - suggestions?
So I'm going on my honeymoon to a cabin near Mount Ranieer on the Ashford side. As some of you know, I love alpine lake fishing, and I'm going to bring a rod for both me AND the lady. As far as the park and surrounding wilderness though, I'm not that familiar with the hikes and lakes, and I have heard that they are more hit and miss as far as fishing is concerned. Andbody have any suggestions as to where we should go?

If you are willing to do a little bit of driving and exploring head to Skate Creek. Best kept secret in that area. I for the life of me can't remember which part of the Creek I fished, but the fishing was awesome on light tackle.
Are you staying in Paradise Estates by chance?

We're going to be staying at The Altimeter Cabin, a little cabin right outside the west part of the park. We're going to be there for a week, and we're from seattle so driving shouldn't be a problem, heheh!

Skate creek is great it gets stocked with trout and big trout at that the weekend before the 4th. There is a nice holding hole right under one of the bridges. Just a whole worm, no wieght. I took the daughter last year on the 5th and we had a blast.
Good luck and let us know how you do.

I am heading to packwood this weekend and skate creek is where I will be found. Under the afore mentioned bridge. It is a great place to fish. We are also going to try the hike into Packwood lake and check it out.

So where is this skate creek? I'm looking on Google maps and it doesn't have labels or anything, I found Skate Crk Road...

Just keep following that road from packwood up twards the park. You will pass over a couple bridges.
Also look for nat road 52 I think it is.

Laura and I ended up visiting Skate Creek, but not fishing. There were too many mosquitos for her taste. We did go up to Goat Lake, Beljika Meadows Lake on the way to Lake George through the Glacier View Wilderness, and although I didn't get a chance to fish much, there were LOTS of fish. I didn't find these lakes in the list, but I got some good pictures that I think I'm going to post somewhere. I saw BIG alpine trout on this gorgeous trail, and MANY baby trout. I'm definitely going to hike the hike again someday, the whole trail is very trouty. We did catch some Kokanee in Riffe lake, and bass in Mineral Lake.

Thanks for the info everyone. Just move back from east coast and this was a great first trip for kids. Fishing was very good with fat little 10-13 inchers.
