Filling Reels with New Line

Post by Deadeyemark » Fri May 18, 2007 10:04 pm

As most of you probably already know, the super lines last quite a while before you have to replace them. Every other year I'll pull the line off one reel onto something so I can re-use it. I'll then reel the line from the next reel onto the first reel, putting the old used section on first and leaving the newer stuff for the upcoming season. Now do it again with the next and the next. Saves some money and no trip to the store. Hope it helps.

I am not a huge muskie fisherman but I change my line on each of my poles at least twice a year. I take a lot of beginers out on a regular basis so you know how that goes you end up WASTING alot of line, I dont mind but thats just how it works. On MY poles I switch often because I m picky and can tell the diffrence between new and slightly used line. I also use mono witch is a lot cheaper than braid or floro

Mark's suggestion is a good one; it'll cut your line budget in half. You also should frequently inspect the end of your line for nicks or abrasion, and periodically cut off a couple feet and retie your leader. Most broken lines occur at the knot or within 18 inches of the leader. That's where wear and damage are greatest.
