FIRST Fishing of the Year!!!

Finally had a chance today to go and run my boat and get my line wet for the first time this season. Water was 41 to 42 degrees on American Lake (First time at this lake) down near Fort Lewis just south of Tacoma. No luck on catching anything and I threw the kitchen sink at this lake. I broke out everything from crankbaits to spinnerbaits to football jigs on the bottom, some swimbaits and a few other specialities and just couldn't get anything at all. I will say the lake was very scenic and the weather was Perfect!!! I am planning on heading over to Lake Sawyer tomorrow to give this a try and see what might happen. This lake will also be another first for me, so I will certainly post at some point once I am back from this trip. Crossing my finger's and hoping that I have better luck this go around, but we will have to wait and see. I guess this is why they call it fishing and not catching, but as the old saying goes "a bad day of fishing is better than any good day at work, unless that work happens to be on a boat out on a lake, then it's just terrible" Had to keep it clean!!! LOL... Well have a good one, I will keep everyone posted. Spring is right around the corner and the Tiger Musky's are starting to call my name or at least that is what I keep hearing!!!

I'm sure he wasnt fishing for Muskies. Funny if you were...the rumours would fly. Probably test drives baits..
Me and a few gents are hitting Mayfield next Saturday. Test driving some musky baits there for sure. Or even some trout. March is pretty good for trout. Had 4 followers last year about the same time...maybe we can get them in the net this year..later

I was out Bass Fishing, but Yes I was trying to fine tune a few lures that I have put together over the winter and I am glad I did because now I know where I need to go from here. Can't say that neither myself or my little man had any luck but we gave it everything we had. American Lake is certainly a challenge if a person is Bass Fishing at this time of year. I still think the water is way too cold especially when it reads 40 degrees surface temp. We also were able to get over to Lake Sawyer over in Black Diamond today and gave this lake everything we had with the same results as American. I will say this lake reminds me a lot of the Midwest Lakes I am used too. Sawyer has plenty of cover and back bay areas as well as logs/trees in the water and overhang of trees with a couple of islands as well. I am certainly going to give this a try again in April and see if the water warming changes things, I will keep everyone posted. Lake Tapps I think will be next challenge for me and my little man, except this time we will give it a shot from land instead of in a boat. Knowing our luck we will have much better results standing on the side of a dike instead of trolling around hitting spots here and there. Have a good one.
